I love my Kindle November 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing is amazing. Even though it's only in it's initial stages, the usability and convenience of it is exceptional. I agree with other reviewers that the page buttons can be a bit cumbersome but if you use the book cover to hold it, it takes some of that away. Also - I agree with the users who have suggested placing a small amount of velcro on the back of your Kindle and in the book cover to help it stay in place a little better. The plastic tab that is supposed to accomplish this is lacking some. More and more books are being added all the time which is awesome. I love being able to download a book and have the abilty to read it in seconds. It is so much better than having to wait for it to ship from an on-line purchase or rummaging through the local bookstores and libraries trying to find what you want to read. I do wish more subject variety books were available (such as medical reference books or similar items) but I know they are working on this and I help whenever I can by selecting the "I want to read this on my kindle" option when searching for a book. I know this thing is expensive, but for the amount of time I spend using it and the money it saves me on books over all, it was well worth the money!
cheap books November 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife called me while watching Oprah interview Jeff Bezos talking about The Kindle. Being a non technical person, I was hesitent about buying a computer like device. On the other hand, being someone who buys 4 to 5 books a month, I could see my self saving $50 to $60 a month. Well, I bought one last month and couldn't be happier. I figure this baby will pay for itself in six months.
The downside is if you are out and about and using your Kindle, every one and their brother wants to know what this is. How am I supposed to read if I'm constantly being interupted.

Kindle Version 2.0 ... November 17, 2008 1 out of 18 found this review helpful
Kindle is a fantastic product, but when is version 2.0 coming out? There are rumors that the new version will be coming out soon, but no indication as to when! I know there is no absolute in the release date of tech products, but an approximate indication would help. I don't want to buy something to find out if I had waited a little longer I could have gotten the new release. However, if the version 2 is not coming out till Fall of 2009, then I would go ahead & buy the 1st generation. Sony is out with their new reader, but I like Kindle better - Kindle has more and better book selections ... It would be good if the 2nd generation Kindle gets released on time for the 2008 holidays!
BEWARE - SHIPPING DELAY OF 2 TO 3 WEEKS! November 17, 2008 0 out of 24 found this review helpful
This is not a review of the Kindle itself since I haven't been able to purchase one yet. I was trying to purchase one for a birthday present, but I've subsequently found out that they are on back order despite the fact that the site didn't tell me that. Needless to say, an estimated delivery date of December 3-5 won't work for a birthday on Nov 20.
This is the second time that Amazon has "hidden" the delayed delivery date until the automated confirmation! I understand the economics of it (if the get you invested in the product you won't purchase something comparable from somewhere else), but I think it's deceptive.
Just wanted to back sure no one else ran into the same situation. Thanks, Oprah for telling everyone about the product... Just beware you're now going to have to wait a while to get it! Sort of forseeable consequence that might merit extra production on Amazon's part! :)
