Nuvi 350 January 14, 2007 Received a Nuvi GPS unit for Xmas. Unit works great, is easy to use and has some pretty cool capabilities. The size is just right to walk around with and the battery life appears to be excellent. I've loaded a bunch of MPS3 on the unit and pictures of the kids. Next time I go out of town I can skip bringing the old MP3 player. I highly recomend this unit, can't compare to others, I'm thinking of buying one for the wife.
great product January 14, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been testing my nuvi 350 all around the Los Angeles and Ventura County area in California. So far I'm happy with the product although I did occasionally have weird bugs. I tested it to and from work about five times to see if I wanted to keep the product. Four times it worked great and took me right to the location without any issues. One time though it told me I had arrived when I was still about half a mile away. I then searched for POI. The database is good but is missing some businesses that have been around for over a year. I was able to quickly find tons of useful POI though. However one time the unit had GPS reception and it thought Glendale CA was 300 miles away from me when really Glendale is about 25 miles away from me. So in conclusion I like the unit and will definitely keep it but once it does weird things.
So far it is great January 13, 2007 I haven't used the Garmin Nuvi very long but I'm having a great time with it. I have had one problem with an address but come to find out that the address doesn't appear on mapquest either. It seems to take time for some new addresses to appear on the satelite systems. I love being able to press one button to get home after I leave my last client's house at the end of the day. In the past I have been so tired that getting out of neighborhoods at that point has been a challenge - reversing my mapquest directions did not work very well. Again, I have not had the opportunity to use the other functions of the system but am looking forward to trying them in the near future. This is my first GPS system.

Let me start with saying, that I tried a Garmin Gps when they first came out(borrowed). Which they were much bigger and bulker then. I went to the OBX and loved it. The Gps told me and showed me every step of the way. That one didn't have all the fancy extras like mp3 player and photo viewer etc... It was the most unstressful vacation I have ever been on, driving. I totally relied on the GPS for directions b/c I had no other. It was awesome. And after that...I said, "I will own a GPS in my lifetime". Well, the price has gone done alot and they've added some extras etc... The things I found most valuable were, 1.)I didn't have to read the manual to get it working. 2.)I love the "GO HOME" feature...so that no matter where I am...it will take me home. 3.) I programed in some favorites (addresses) so if I'm at one store at one end of town, it will tell me how to get to another store at the other end of town. I haven't used the other fancier features yet. The only down side is, my girls voice "Jill" sounds like she has an attitude when she says, "re-calculating". The older Garmin women said,"re-routing!" just as a matter of fact(like no big deal). Jill let's out a breath and sounds almost annoyed.
A couple of bugs but overall a great GPS unit... January 12, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ive tried several GPS units from Magellan & Garmin & I believe the NUVI 350 was/is the best of them.
The display on the Garmin 350 is much cleaner than the Magellan 2000 or 3000 & the touch screen is far easier to use than all the different buttons on the Magellan. And when youre driving down the highway at speeds that could kill, you dont want something thats going to take your attention away from what youre doing. Of the Garmin 330, 340 & 350 I thought the satellite reception was faster & more reliable on the NUVI 350. It always located instantly inside or out & the only time Ive lost reception was in a tunnel. Deep inside a tunnel. I also preferred the compact size of the 350. However, that small size came with the price of reducing the speaker(s) to 1 small rear mounted speaker that faces the windshield. This probably falls under the heading of a "personal problem" as Im a long distance truck driver & the truck is fairly loud & Im fairly hard of hearing after a few years of these conditions. I dont use the NUVI 350 in my car but I suspect the conditions allow you to hear it much better.
My only other complaint ( and its a small one under that personal problem heading again ) is that you cant put more than two (2) destinations in at a time. You can put many different locations in the favorites or recently viewed list ahead of time & then just pick them when you get ready to leave your current or last destination. The NUVI 350 is very versatile & there are several "work arounds" to get what you need out of it.
Also, if you have no clue as to the address of a location but you do know or have a good idea where it is, you can use a stylus & (-) or (+) to pinpoint the location & then set it for routing. In this mode you can also use your fingertip to "slide" the map around to locate an area. Very nice & useful.
I also like the constant northern pointing arrow to keep me oriented, the 3D map & the clear direction & turn arrows. Theres also the stats & directions screens that are available at your fingertips. Very easy to read & toggle to & from while driving.
I havent used the mp3 player or the other functions available & probably wont. Although Id like to hear more from others about the traffic watch service as that could be a useful tool in the right place.
All the reviews Ive read ( although they were few )that didnt give the NUVI 350 at least 4 stars seemed a little silly. Nothing personal, they just seemed way over expectant. Its just a GPS unit after all...
Overall, the NUVI 350 ia a great tool. I spend less time looking for street signs & addresses & more time watching out for the traffic all around me. Im more confidant when going into larger cities & rural areas as well as streets & roads are clearly marked on the NUVI 350 even if there are no signs in sight.
