5 out of 5 stars Men and boys...   May 2, 2008
...and the price of their toys.
Actually this is NOT a toy, but a very high-tech, useful device. It is a "toy" only in that it is something you definitely can do without if you are on a tight budget. It IS fun! Especially if you hook up with the Garmin site where you can track your activities on a satellite map. If you're considering buying a gift in this price range for that special, active person, this would be an excellent choice.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for any level of workout   April 30, 2008

I purchased this product mainly to document my races, however use it for all of my workouts now. You can set the lap time for any distance. I do every mile, so that it logs my mile time as well as beeps per mile so that I'm not constantly checking my wrist. You can choose to monitor even per second, so that when you sync the watch with your computer, you can see your progress through out the run. The watch also notes the elevation/terrain that you're on so you can relate your times. The watch is also great w/biking, rollerblading, etc. Rechargeable w/it's own docking station and it lasts definitely for a half marathon, although I haven't tried any longer. The size is a better fit for females than the forerunner 201, but are essentially identically as far as functions go. Big display and easy to ready while in motion.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy   April 27, 2008
This product is a great addition to my running workouts. I no longer have to track distance in my car, this gadget does it for me. It is easy to use and I can upload my runs onto the computer to compare them. The time, distance and pace are very helpful. The battery lasts for a while too. It is lightweight and does not feel heavy on your wrist when you run with it. A good investment.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   April 25, 2008
I bought the Forerunner 101 a few years back and loved it but decided that it was time for one with a rechargeable battery. I use it mostly on longer runs where I want to know how far I ran. It is also nice to know hour pace. I find that this one works better at determining the instantaneous pace where the 101 was usually off and better with the average pace.

This one has a plastic strap which is nice as the 101 has a velcro one which can get smelly after many uses. The only drawback of the plastic band is that it may be too big for some petite women. I have small wrists and have to wear it on the second to last hole and because of the curved design you really can't go smaller than the last hole. Still it works and I love running with it.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin 205 Forerunner   April 22, 2008

I'm very happy with my purchase of the Garmin Forerunner 205. I bought it a few months ago and have had the chance to test it over different courses and conditions. I'm glad I bought it.
I had the Forerunner 201 and was very happy with that too. I don't know how I trained without a GPS watch. I run by myself 99% of the time. GPS makes a long, boring run much more interesting and efficient.
I've run 2 marathons, but now am concentrating on 20-30 mile a week.
The 205 has many advantages over the 201. It tracks satelites in about 30 seconds vs 2 minutes (helpful on cold days). On out-and-back loops, it shows the exact same distance both ways (the 201 might vary slightly). Most importantly, it gets much better reception in trees. I thing because the GPS sensor is on top rather than next to the display.
My only concern was whether the 205 would be as accurate as the 305. I have a heart monitor that I rarely use, so didn't need the 305 for the heart monitor. But my friend with the 305 said it was more accurate. I haven't run with my friend who has a 305, but having run with guys with the 305 in the past, I can't imagine there's much difference. The jump from the 201 to the 205 in accuarcy is fantastic and I feel I have a state of the art GPS. If the 305 is any more accurate, it can't be much. There's not much room for improvement.
Rich.
