3 out of 5 stars Has a glitch when using for Geotagging photos   June 13, 2008

This unit is a major improvement from my old emap model.

There is one major glitch that you should be aware of if you are going to use this for geo tagging photos - when you save the track log, it will remove all the time stamp information from your data, making it useless for geo tagging. I learned this the hard way after using the unit to track for 4 days and then saving the log. It does work very well if you do not clear the track log and rely on the saved log.

I am going to see if I can upgrade to a model that does not have this 'glitch'.

Be careful when you see the name Optics Planet in the description. Item listed as Trijicon TA31RCM150 Trijicon ACOG Rifle Combat Optic Rifle Scope 4X 32 Red Chevron Matte BAC-M150
List Price: $1,450.00
Price: $34.99
You Save: $1,415.01 (98%)
I have seen deals on these scopes before (I also purchased them) and Optics Planet is not honoring the order, saying it is a case, not the scope and telling me that it is my problem and they will send me an "RMA" if I would like. Just be leary if you see a good deal from this company as it is probally not true. I personally don't feel that falsely advertising a sale is the customers problem. Other companies honor misadvertised prices on their products that were purchased prior to the correction. But you will not find that here. Here is a kicker they have modified the ad and now they want me to leave a review on it with the new price.

5 out of 5 stars eTrex Venture is a good buy.   June 11, 2008
This is a good budget GPS for the hiker and bicyclist. I use it as a speedometer on my mountain bike, and take it on walks and jogs - it's great for measuring mileage. Because it syncs with atomic clock info from the gps satellites, it will be your most accurate clock too. I set my watches to it. If you need a barometric sensor and magnetic compass, step up to the Vista HCX.

4 out of 5 stars excellent unit for geocaching and trail use   June 9, 2008

Great unit for geocaching because of the built in geocaching mode. The color screen is very readable in sunlight, and input is easy due to the rocker control. Base Map is readable and surprisingly detailed. The satellite acquisition time is speedy - it only took a couple minutes to acquire and find my position after the initial start, and now it only takes a matter of seconds. I haven't used the Trip & Waypoint manager software yet, but I was able to use the Garmin POI Loader and the Garmin Communicator for sending info straight to the device from my mac without any problems.

I Wouldn't recommend this unit for in-car use because of the lack of auto-routing and the price of City Navigator maps from Garmin. Also, the lack of substantial internal memory is almost embarrassing given how cheap (and small) memory is these days. However, Garmin will probably address this in future iterations.

All in all, I'm extremely happy with the quality and features this unit has to offer at this price point, and would highly recommend this unit if you do a lot of recreational hiking and/or geocaching.

1 out of 5 stars not worth the money   June 8, 2008

The maps that come with it are worthless. Got it for hiking then found go topo and trail maps cost more then I care to pay. It does a very poor job of distance and time tracking.
