OK but has some serious faults August 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this product because of the Garmin name, the 30 day return policy, and the fact that it is battery powered. I already have a Sureshot re-chargeable golf GPS unit. The first problem I encountered was the necessity to pay a $30 subscription in order to test the unit. I ultimately returned the unit well within the 30 days, but was out the $30 subscription fee. I chose the unit initially because I sometimes forget and leave my Sureshot on the charger. I liked the item of a battery powered unit I could leave in my bag with a spare set of batteries. The main problem I found with the Garmin unit is the limited info it will display at any one time. As an example, on my home course, the first hole is a par 5. A 250 yard drive leaves you about 250 yds from a heavily bunkered elevated green and about 60 yards from a fairway bunker. I wanted a lay up distance short of the cluster of bunkers below the green, but the only distance the unit displayed beyond front/middle/back-of-green yardages was the distance to and to carry the not-in-play fairway bunker 60 yds away. If I wanted the lay up distance I had to walk past the fairway bunker before the unit would display the next bunker. No matter what buttons I pushed I couldn't get the unit to scroll through other distances. The distances the unit does provide seemed to be accurate based on my limited tests but the weakness noted above was a deal killer for me.
Solid unit ... but a little disappointed August 22, 2008 The GolfLogix GPS is a very basic, straightforward golf GPS. I would definitely recommend it. Any disappointment I've experienced is due more to my high (unreasonable?) expectations than the quality of the product. For example, I was expecting a high tech, color display. Instead, the display is black and white and looks like something out of the late 80's. I'm technically proficient and I sometimes find it difficult to navigate the screens without getting lost. With time I've found the best thing you can do is leave it alone and it will automatically switch to the screen (e.g. hazard distance screen or center of green screen) you'd most likely want. I like the ability to measure off the distance I hit a ball. The only drawback is when I out drive my friends. They are typically asking me for "distance to the green information" before I get to my ball ... so I have to exit the "yardage of last shot" screen - mentally noting the yardage count when I exited - to give them the info. Then I restart the "yardage" counter and add the two results when I get to my ball. I've only found 1-course where some of the hole yardages were off and it negatively affected my club selection.
Zero customer support! August 21, 2008 I purchased a 2008 Garmin GPS 3 weeks ago. It's accuracy was marginal, needing to be 'modified' on several of the holes on my home course. Furthermore, the worst part, I made 3 (THREE) calls to customer support and none of them were returned. Each time I was instructed to leave a name and number and an associate would get back to me within 24 hours....NOT!
Of the two courses I used with the device, I had to modify both to increase accuracy to where I trusted the device on those courses. I happily sold the item for a bit of a loss.
Excellent GPS - Very happy with this Unit August 19, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
When I retired some time ago I purchased a new set of clubs, bag, cart, Bushnell 1500 and the Sky Caddie. Recently purchase the latest Golflogic 2008 model and was up and running in 15 minutes with 20 courses of my choice.
Advantages over the Sky Caddie:
Batteries. I carry four extra in my bag for the Golflogix and in the past I have forgotten to charge up the Sky Caddie and it went dead half way through my round.
The Sky Caddie is slow and you have to scroll through to select your course. The Golflogix selects the course and hole you are on when you turn it on. A very nice feature.
Feel better about this unit being water proof. With the Sky caddie I purchased a waterproof bag container for the rainy days. (Which we get in Vancouver).
One yearly fee and you download 20 courses anywhere. With the Sky caddie I had to pay additional fee's to download one course I go to in Wa.
Big Bright view. I am sure this is because of the new technology. I would think the latest Sky Caddie would be bright as well.
Con to the Golflogix over the Sky Caddie
You cannot map your own course with the Golflogix as you can with the Sky Caddie. If your course is not on the list to download you could map it yourself. As I purchased the Sky Caddie at the beginning I had to map a few of the courses myself. You cannot map your own course with the Golflogix.
I attach both to my Sun Mountain cart. My buddies like to know their distance to the pin and I always have the unit on distance of my shot when I advance after hitting my ball. This way I have the best of both worlds.
I use the Bushnell 1500 with the slope as well. Sometimes you just want to know the distance to trees,,,landing area, the flag,,,downhill or uphill shots (This makes a difference as it compensates for the addition or subtraction of the distance).
With all these toys you would think it would improve my golf game, ha ha...well my skill level needs improvement however I love to know how far I hit my shots,,,how far I need to hit them,,,,it makes my day a lot more relaxed and sometimes I hit the shot of the day.....
If you are reading this review I would like to put a plug in for Sun Mountain. I purchased the C130 bag, the V2 cart, and the cooler bag. The umbrella fits into the top of the cart and you can easily get under it without bending over. I am 6'1" and am very happy with the set up.
Upon retirement as mentioned I purchased a complete set of clubs. In hindsight I would go to a professional shop and have the clubs made for my body, swing, speed etc.
The Golflogix GPS 2008 Model is a winner!
Hope this review helps

nonexistent custome service August 18, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Purchased the Golflogix in July, because I have been happy with Garmin GPS. Mistake. After problems with downloading software, I tried to contact Golflogix via e-mail and telephone. No response from Golflogix. I returned the unit under their "satisfaction guarantee" policy, and still have not heard from them. Postal receipt indicates unit was delivered to them on 08/01, and as of 08/18 I still have not heard from them. Have made two phone calls and sent two e-mails, and no response. Right now their marketing and promotions appear to be a sham. In the meantime have purchased a Sky Caddie, and am delighted with performance and customer service.
