ATLP20 USB April 5, 2008 The ATLP20 USB does what you said it would do. So know I can listen to all of my old records.
Lovin' It April 2, 2008 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
I received this as a gift a few months ago. I loaded the software, plugged the turntable into my computer (had to assemble some parts, but it is pretty straight-forward) and started playing my music. The sound is great and the recording very easy. The software - audacity - is fairly simple to use, but you have to research the instructions on the internet because they do not come with the software disk. They are readily available though.
The turntable is pretty solid. It has what look like shock absorbing feet as you see on high quality electronic components. The turntable is aluminum (not plastic) with a rubber mat that sits on it to protect the LP. It has a much-needed dust cover which some do not come with. There are three buttons: up/down, start and stop. The start button lifts the arm, starts the table turning and gently sets the needle on the record. Stop does the reverse. Up down, simply raises or gently lowers the needle. There is never a need to touch the arm of the turntable, which is a major benefit to your records by minimizing the likelihood of your causing scratches by setting down or lifting the needle manually. The arm does return automatically at the end.
Great product and would highly recommend.
Very Disappointing March 28, 2008 16 out of 20 found this review helpful
I realize that a lot of people have had a lot of success with this turntable, but I had nothing but trouble. To begin, it simply wouldn't work with a Windows XP laptop I wanted to use with it. All it recorded from the usb connection was noise. I was able to get it to work with a Vista laptop but I would get either a low hum or shortwave radio broadcasts recorded as well when the turntable was connected to the phono input on either of my receivers. I discovered that I could eliminate that problem by switching the turntable off phono to line (I think that's what it's called) and plugging it into the tape input of my receivers. But then I started getting quite a few of what I would describe as digital skips where a fraction of a second of the song just wouldn't record and it sounded like a curious sort of skip. I spoke with their customer support and they went out of their way to figure out what was going wrong, but in the end could only suggest exchanging the turntable for another. When the second got here I had all the same problems but then I discovered that I could use the adapter to plug the RCA plugs directly into the soundcard of my computer. I thought all my problems were fixed only to discover that the recordings you get don't handle basic stereo separation well (or at all). On CSN&Y's "Wooden Ships," Stills sings on one audio track followed by Crosby on another. Using both USB connections and the adapter to plug directly into my soundcard, I simply couldn't get Still's voice to record. And instead of hearing Crosby on the right, it placed his voice on both speakers. Also, the second turntable would speed up and slow down while playing an album.
So many have had success with this thing that I wouldn't suggest not buying one on the basis of my experience. But be aware: you may need to return this thing.
Great Turntable March 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The turntable is great, with the process of loading to a computer for CD burning easy. The included software IS NOT compatible with Vista, but does work fine for XT
GOOD AUDIO EQUIPMENT March 26, 2008 THE DEVICE WORKED WELL, I HAD TROUBLE USING IS WITH MY MACBOOK PRO NAD FINALLY TALKED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE. SO I SWITCHED TO A PC AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM, THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE WAS THE FACT YOU HAD TO MONITOR THE THING PRETY CLOSELY AND LISTEN TO THE LP AL THE WAY THROUGH, BUT IT WORKED GREAT AND WAS WORTH THE TIME AND DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY.
