Great addition to my life! December 21, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the price I don't think you can find a more useful electronic device. I have been wanting a GPS for EVER, but I am so tight on spending money (hate buying anything at retail prices) and I take so long to do my research that I didn't get one until now. Glad I waited! The Garmin Nuvi 200w is a great, better then entry level, GPS I would give it 5 stars if it had text to speech and said the street names for me, but they are printed big accross the top of the screen so whatever! Paid $212.00 on sale at Amazon with free shipping. It has saved me $$$ in gas and time finding locations I have never been to. It did take me to a Bed Bath & Beyond that didn't exist on the side of a highway, but we just laughed at that and went to the next one in the list which it found flawlessly. Maps are great, screen size is awesome, the theft protection is pretty cool unless you enter the wrong pin once away from your "security spot" then you have to return there to reset it. . .hmmm be careful to acurately and slowly enter the pin! The mount for the windshield is very small and works great in every vehicle I have been in with it now. I love this thing and never leave home without it now, don't know how I lived without it before? I know there are alot of others that offer all kinds of features like MP3 players and all but for the money this unit serves every need I have for a GPS. The SD card slot is nice addon. It also hands down beat my friends Tom Tom One 3rd edition, and nicely stacked up with another friends Nuvi 350 which he paid considerably more for. Very pleased with this purchase!
Best portable GPS for the money! December 21, 2007 I recently bought a new car with factory equipped navigation. When my 17-year-old daughter saw how this worked in my car she of course wanted GPS for her SUV. For her birthday I got her the Garmin nuvi 200W and she loves it! And, it cost about one-fifth of what I paid for my factory-installed nav system. I highly recommend getting the Garmin friction mount with it, for safety and convenience. My daughter and I have traveled extensively together, as chronicled in my book Don't Fear the Big Dogs So, now whether we travel together or separately we won't be getting lost ever again. This is a great product. I researched it a lot and found this to be the best portable GPS I could find for the money. My daughter worked it perfectly, right out of the box, without reading the instructions. But, then she's a teenager!
A MUST HAVE! December 21, 2007 The Garmin GPS is a must have! I have the old style which is about 4 years old. I have zero sense of direction, i'm constantly getting lost, and it has NEVER let me down. I have three children and it really puts me at ease when on the road without my husband. I recently purchased two of the Nuvi-W version. I have to say, I like the new widescreen. It's much easier to see, it's very slim and can fit in your purse or pocket when you leave your car. It's so cool and easy to use. You can store directions to every destination you've traveled. When on the road traveling, you can search for any store or restaurant and it will take you there. Don't leave home without it!
Excellent basic GPS unit that does the job very well December 18, 2007 Bright crisp screen, loud & clear voice commands and works right out of the box. Wider screen offers significantly more viewing area than nuvi 200. Locks on to satellites with position fix in less than a minute in the morning without the flip-out antenna (no chance of antenna damage) and pretty good auto routing. If you don't need the frills of the more expensive units, this budget gizmo is great value for money. Only one small problem I noticed is the picture viewer function is a bit slow in displaying pics.
Great help, when it works... December 18, 2007 I bought the Garmin because of the wide screen feature (and the price of course). It looks great and works like a charm, when you can establish a satellite connection. Usually takes about 4 - 5 minutes for one (sometimes less), but I've had times when 15 minutes passes by and I'm still waiting. So if you find yourself in a hurry to find your way around, take a deep breath and cross your fingers. Once a connection is established, I haven't lost the signal. To be fair, I don't know if it's a navigator problem or a satellite problem. For the money, I think it works great, but I think there are better navigators out there (few with a widescreen though). Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase.
