TomTom Navigation August 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the first device, of this kind, that I have had and I am amazed at the functionality it has and how user friendly it is to navigate. I am very impressed.
Faliero August 14, 2008 Good product, it's great that you can update it via internet. A couple of adresses were not precise though. It would be nice if it said out loud when it's relocating a route
Does a nice job for the money August 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We already own a Garmin 350 but on occassion, my wife and I are out of town at the same time and could use a second GPS. Although the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition does not pronounce the names of the streets like the Garmin, it still gives plenty of warning time (2 miles) and once you get accustomed to its style of giving directions ("in 50 feet make a right and then stay right, followed by a left turn") it works like a gem. The routes selected by the unit make sense (only twice did it appear to get confused and that was AT the destination) and the satellite signal comes in much quicker than the Garmin. The screen display showing the remaining distance in large numbers in the lower left hand corner are extremely convenient.
If you want street recognition, go with a higher level product but if you want reliable directions with no bells and whistles at a good price, this product will do the job for you!
Very good product. August 13, 2008 It works as supposed but you must update using TomTom Home software. Without this update the maps are not complete, missing several streets.
To decide among Garmin and TomTom I read other opinions at this site. There is a very interesting report from one person that did a travel vacation using both brands.
Tom Tom One - more current review August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had the Tom Tom One for about a year until my daughter going off to college claimed it as her own, Mom did the gifting I did the lifting. After a year of use in and around town and while on travel throughout the country, I thought I would update my first review.
All the major GPS units are great and none will ever have maps that are totally up to date or subject to minor errors in mapping your route. Complaints about any GPS not having your favorite short cut or route are unreasonable. With that off my chest here is my assessment.
Maps are clear, display bright, volume strong, ability to acquire a signal excellent, battery life acceptable. The small for factor travels well, using in a big city to get around works well although a bit geeky.
The announcement of distance to a turn in yards rather than feet a pet peeve, but just for me. All and all a very good unit for the price.
The rest of my thoughts are comparative of the Tom Tom to a Navigon, Magellan and Garmin, I have owned all three. I have used all of them at one time or another and all work well. My personal preference is the Garmin because of the software interface, and the more robust Points of Interest. I like the software that presents menus and control options on the Garmin best, but that is perhaps personal choice.
In summary the Tom Tom is a very good device that will get you from point A to point B as desired for a reasonable price.
Finally I have read a couple of reviews with complaints that their GPS does not work in their house, I can only laugh that someone would actually complain about that and not sit back and say duh.
