5 out of 5 stars Nuvi 760 Rocks!   June 5, 2008

After using the nuvi 760 for about a month, it's clear that this is best nuvi yet. It has a nice bright screen, good Bluetooth integration, and really, really handy "Where Am I?" feature with pointers to nearby gas, hospitals, and police. I think that all of this combined with Garmin's spot-on routing makes the nuvi 760 an excellent choice for anybody in the market for a portable GPS unit.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect For Vacation   June 5, 2008

We bought this nuvi the day before our two week, travel-by-car vacation in several states that we've never been to before. It worked great. A couple of times, in large cities (DC, NYC) it got a little lost in the directions and had us trying to turn left where we couldn't, but the rest of the time it worked great. We used it to find restaurants, hotels, gas - always worked great. The only complaint with it is that if you search for a restaurant by name ("spell" feature) and it isn't in the database, it never comes back to tell you it can't find it - it just keeps looking! But, overall, a very capable and useful GPS. I think we used every feature, including the "where am I" feature so we could find our car in parking lots.

4 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings   June 5, 2008

This is my first GPS, and I studied all the reviews and decided on this one, with all the bells and whistles. I've only used it for two weeks, but here are my impressions so far:
LIKES: Screen size (can't imagine using anything smaller) and portability; easy to see in daylight; fast lock on satellite and quick recalculation if I don't follow its instructions; easy bluetooth coupling with my Motorola RazR phone (but I haven't called anyone, so have yet to experience the "tunnel effect" that other reviewers have mentioned); easy to mount, unmount and position from the "beanbag" mount; the maps appear to be very detailed, even naming dirt roads! I enjoy using the male British voice for the spoken directions -- the American woman's pronunciation is a bit unclear.
DISLIKES: (1) Inaccurate directions. This has been mentioned by other reviewers, and really needs to be addressed by Garmin or its mapmaker. I used it to drive from home to work (about 40 miles), and it routed me through a small town miles out of my way (I have it set on Freeways, though, so maybe it was trying to use the freeway, even though it would have nearly doubled my mileage). Using the multiple-point routing feature with a few key intersections, I was able to "force" it to use my route. (2) Too easy to overshoot turns. As another reviewer mentioned, it calls for the turn too late for me to get into a turn lane. If I were using only the Garmin's voice for my directions, I would be doing a lot of U-turns. (3) It can't "find" a YMCA campground in Big Bear, CA, even when I give it the street address. It found two other addresses on the same road, but not the campground. How does a mapmaker miss this obvious POI that's been there forever? (4) For the price, Garmin should have included a carrying case, a charge cable and a manual. I had to buy the case separately (the one made for the Garmin Nuvi 660 is a very nice fit); I'm using the traffic cable for charging the unit; and I downloaded the manual.

I gave it four stars because I do enjoy it, and as someone who gets lost a lot, having the satellite tell me where I am or especially where my car is will be a big help. Haven't tried the SD card/photos feature, or the FM feature yet.

5 out of 5 stars Grat GPS Device   June 4, 2008

I am extremely satisfied with my Garmin 760. Maps are very good; Bluetooth works great, MP3 Player plus the FM feature are very convenient. Voice announcement cuts the music automatically for directions and restarts it again. Although it is not so important, this device cannot locate a satellite inside or near a building.
