| Customer Reviews:
Amazon is simply the best July 11, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is not a review about the Garmin 760 but the Customer Service behind it. I have bought thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from Amazon and never had a problem, but when my Garmin 760 arrived it had a small crack in the screen. I notified the return dept and the "VERY NEXT MORNING" on my doorstep was a new replacement. They also emailed me Return Authorization labels and kept me informed by email about the whole thing.
I was absolutely floored to have gotten the new one even before I sent the old one back, Amazon has a customer for life......
One last thing the 760 is a great GPS...
Liked it so much, bought two more! July 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this version last Christmas for my mom. After the parents had to make an emergency trip (due to a pending death in the family) where the Garmin took them right to the hospital door at 2 AM (after traveling 200 miles), I bought one for my Dad's car and one for myself.
I'm still learning all the bells and whistles - figuring out how to get it to do the "scenic" route is a bit tricky... if traveling, you'll still have to do the research yourself before the trip. (Recently wanted to travel the more scenic route home.. and really considering Seattle traffic, that scenic route would have been faster at that time of day. The Garmin wanted me to get off that scenic route)
If using it for vacations, some preplanning might still be necessary (when the purpose is the journey, and not getting from point A to point B in the best time or distance possible).
One other glitch... individual home addresses may be off a little. My parents' home is shown on several lots over when I program their address in. It isn't so far off to bother me... it still got me in the general area, and if I hadn't been there before I'd be able to find it by keeping my eyes open.
Pretty friggin' suh-wheet July 9, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This thing helped me get around a huge 4th of July traffic jam, so I can tip my hat to the dude who invented it.
Great Item! July 8, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great GPS unit, it has just about everything you need GPS, Bluetooth, Mp3 Player and it the Points-of-Interest can be modifed. The only downside is the price and the 7 series doesn't receive voice recognition locations.
Don't buy into the bells and whistles July 8, 2008 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
Here's the jist of my Garmin experiance:
I purchased both the Garmin 760 and the 680, and this review applies to each.
The FM transmitter is not clear (on any channel). I live in a suburb of the Twin Cities for reference). Maybe out in the country this would have worked better). So in populated areas it is unusable as a MP3 player, and unless you want to listen to intermittent static between directions, you'll just use the internal speaker. The blue-tooth also works, but not great, so unless you want to sound like you're in a box, you'll stop using that. The traffic mode did NOT redirect me around backed up freeway.
Buy a SIMPLIFIED GPS unit (don't even get wide-screen, because you won't need it, although it sounds nice) next one I buy will be small and just get me from A to B, with no bells and whistles.
