5 out of 5 stars Excellent   July 25, 2008
Get this thing out and away from the city and you'll never give it up!

It's a little sketchy trying to find a clear channel when there are a thousand FM stations crammed together, but other than that, the sound is truly dynamic.

4 out of 5 stars E*A*S*Y To SET-UP and USE! =)   July 25, 2008
The MOTOROLA T505 BLUE-TOOTH CAR KIT is simple to set up and use right out of the box! It gives you the option of either using the built in speaker or the FM radio and speakers in your car to talk on the phone or listen to your MP3s. No other equipment or tools are needed!

It paired with my LG EnV2 right away and I've never used a blue tooth product before, so this was a pleasant experience. The T505 has visor clip that attaches to your sun visor and so it's always within speaking and listening range.

From the calls that I've made with the T505, I can hear the people on the other end clearly and they report hearing me clearly too. I did try using the system to broadcast through the FM radio in my car, but that didn't work out too well because I had to really crank up the volume on my radio to actually hear the caller. But that's OK because I'm not going to use that feature and I'm not using my phone as an MP3 player.

I got this because of the new law in California about "no driving with a cell phone in your hand" so that's the only reason I'm using it.

A few minor complaints that I have about the T505 is the power button. The button has to be held down for a couple of seconds to power on/off the unit which is a pain especially when you want to get in your car and go. And it's also a pain to have to constantly turn it on and off when you get enter and leave your car, so that becomes a hassle too.

Another peeve is recharging the unit. Although you can use the T505 when it's recharging from the car's cigarette lighter/charger, you can't hang it on your visor or the cord will hang in your face. To fix that issue, I just put the unit on an old magnetic-holder that I had attached to my car's interior for an older phone.

All in all the MOTOROLA T505 BT CAR KIT works pretty well as an alternative to having a blue-tooth ear piece.

2 out of 5 stars Great for calls, not so good as music player   July 24, 2008
I purchased the T505 to pair with my new Motorola RAZR Vx33 phone. The pairing process was very easy and I was up and running in about 10 seconds. The device works perfectly on receiving and making calls. The
sound quality is very good whether using the FM or internal speakers. Here is where the trouble starts. When using the T505 to play music from my phone it will not work. After much fiddling around I finally figured out that if I use the phone to switch from bluetooth to handset, THEN switch back again to bluetooth, the music finally can be heard. However, every time after I make or receive a call I must repeat this whole process again in order to hear the music. This constant back and forth clearly defeats the purpose of a handsfree device and is not safe while driving. I will also add that the few times I have been able to listen to
music for any length of time, the FM reception is not that great. The device automatically pairs you with what it thinks is this best station.
There is no way to automatically override this, even though I can find better stations on my own.

I returned the first T505 I received from Amazon thinking it might be defective, but the issue is the same with the new one. I also tried pairing it with another RAZR phone, and again the problem is the same. I
contacted Motorola numerous times, and was very disappointed in the response. Basically, all they will provide is warranity information and will not provide any technical assistance all.

The bottom line is the T505 is a great device for handsfree calling in your car. However, you are also paying for the music playing capabilities and that, along with the terrible customer service from Motorola,is why I can give it only 2 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't Get Much Easier Than This.   July 22, 2008
Love my little T505. Charge it up. Place in car. Turn on. Pair with phone. Done. The only quibble I have is you have to remember to turn it off. (Even if you forget, though, it shuts off automatically in 30 minutes.) Sound is great, particularly when you use it through the stereo. This beats bluetooth stereo solutions because the mic is so close to your mouth. 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent accessory to my Moto Q9h   July 21, 2008
What came in the box

1. T505
2. Removable visor clip
4. Car charger (mini usb)
5. Manual

Buttons and Functions

There are a total of 6 buttons on the device:
Front:

2. Play/Pause: Play your phone's media (WMP, streaming radio, etc.)
Rear:
3. FM: Connects to your car's audio system via FM transmitter
4. Power: On/Off
Sides:
5. Plus: Volume/Change tracks
6. Minus: Volume/Change tracks

Charging

When charging, the color turns from yellow to green to show it's status. Green, being fully charged.

Set up is a breeze

1. Throw away manual
2. Power up T505
3. Search T505 using BT manager
4. Connect

Pairing

Once you have done the initial set up, pairing is as simple as holding the phone button for a few secs. You will hear a tone once paired.

Playing media

Play your mp3's or streaming radio. It will play through the T505 speaker or if connected via FM transmitter it will play via car speaker. The side buttons are used to skip tracks in this mode.

FM transmitter

Press and hold the FM button until you hear a woman's voice. Don't be scared (or turned on), it's the device advising you what station to tune your radio to. It will search for the clearest possible station for the current area. If you find that you enter an area with considerable static, you can simply do another search. Just press and hold... and you know the rest.

Field test

I don't have a long commute to work. I only drive 30 mins per day, one way, Monday through Friday. A regular 9am-5pm job, except I work 430pm-1am, but you get the point. When not in use, I turn it off and stick it in my glove compartment. I have an old, yet reliable, 91 honda civic hatchback as my commuter car. Has not failed me yet and saves me a ton of gas. But I digress. The point I am trying to make is that, unlike luxury cars, road and freeway noise is considerably louder to say the least.

I use the FM transmitter because the T505 speaker is not loud enough due to road noise. People tell me that I sound okay and they have no trouble understanding me. I also use my phone as a source of music. I usually go through my mp3's in my SD and play through Windows Media Player. Plays great through the transmitter. I found setting WMP's volume to 75 works the best, because anything above that distorts the sound.

To make a call, simply press and hold the phone button on front of T505. WMP will pause and voice recognition will prompt you for a command. Or you can pick up your phone and do it manually. When the call is done, press the phone button to end call and music will resume playing. When a call comes in, WMP will pause and you will hear the caller's phone number (caller ID). Pick up the call by pressing the phone button.

Overall, I am very pleased with this device. I give it two thumbs up. My BT connection has not dropped, even once, yet. Battery life seems to be good. It's been 5 days and I still haven't recharged it. I want to see how long the battery will last. FM transmitter is awesome with it's "station finder". No wires or installation necessary. Only downside is speaker is not up to par if you have a bucket as a commuter.

The verdict

Buy it.
