 Very good picture quality July 28, 2008

It works exactly as advertised. It was much smaller than expected. The connections are color-coded making it easy to use. The only thing you need to do is set your Laptop resolution to 1024x768 or lower. The picture quality on TV is really good.

I'm quite happy with this product. It did everything promised, and is great if you want to play PC games on a TV screen or watch movies or TV shows from Netflix or Amazon Unbox. It doesn't provide sound, so a good purchase to use with this is something like this, which will allow you to play sound from the computer over your TV's speakers.
It is lacking in documentation, with only one fold-out sheet in barely-English, and when I first plugged it in the picture was terrible, but using the buttons on the unit I was able to drastically improve the picture; it's actually so good now that I can almost read a Word document at normal size from my couch. (I basically just cranked the sharpness as far up as possible and fiddled with the "Flick", whatever that means, until it was good.) It includes a VGA cable, so you can connect the computer to the box and the box to your monitor, and a way-too-short composite video cable, which is basically useless unless your computer happens to be less than 2 feet from your TV; I couldn't find a composite video extension cable anywhere, and S-video gives a better picture anyway. I eventually used an S-video cable, but that will run you about another $20 at RadioShack. Other than those two things, this is a very good product for an excellent price.

I had read the reviews on a few others before I settled with this one. They were really quite mixed and I didn't know who to believe. From what they had said I expected flickering and very fuzzy picture from all the converters on the market. This one is really awesome. Basically just plug and play. I had it out of the box and working within just a min or two. It re-sets the resolution automatically and using the fine tuning buttons is a sinch. I got a really good quality picture from it, although text is hard to read, if at all possible. Videos almost look better on my tv than on my laptop. Color quality is outstanding and it has never flickered or lost connection.
Using the composite video I was able to hook the converter into my satalite receiver instead of using an RF mod. which saved me 30 bucks. All in all, I am very impressed with this converter and would recommend it to anyone.

I unwrapped; I plugged; I played. I use this tool in my classroom with my digital microscope camera Carson ePIX Digital Microscope to display tiny critters for my students to oogle and draw. They can see a 22-inch carpenter ant, sugar crystals, moss, or the relief & shadows on a coin. I also show them examples of art and design on the internet.
