netgear wireless skype phone August 20, 2008 Got this product and quickly set it up. Setup straightforward and simple. It immediately picked up my restricted network in the house and gave me the opportunity to enter information. I didn't need instructions for any of this as the onscreen was very clear. The listening quality was quite good. I have had good reports on the transmission quality also. So, in spite of some of the comments, this phone has been great for me, at least in the short term. I do agree with the comments about the buttons being small but I find that a problem with cellphones also. I would recommend this.
Close but not there yet August 1, 2008 Amazon had the best price made better with free shipping. Nice compact unit, relatively easy to get up and running. It was slow to connect. Sound quality, in and out, was good, PROVIDING, and this is where I had a problem, providing you were in a very strong signal area. The fact was I could not use it at one end of my home without hanging my router up high on a wall and then the sound quality was still poor ( echo, etc ) This phone could be great if you are in a strong signal area. Nokia HS-47 headset works fine with it.
Not as good as the IPEVO phones July 30, 2008 I had used Netgear modems and was relying on the name for quality. For this particular product, I was disappointed. Call quality: For one thing, Skype is not good with wireless. This is true of all wireless phones, so I can't blame Netgear in particular: there are just a lot of dropped calls (and I mean, a LOT), and there is definitely a lot of static on the line, so "Can you hear me?" will become your new speech tick. Battery life: This proved to be an issue using the phone for the office. We don't want to be tied to the computer, but I don't want to NOT be able to answer the phone because the phone is recharging. For this, I give Netgear super low marks. They should've known better. Usability: I guess it's OK. The look and feel of the device is very plastic/gimicky, and the size is relatively small. This was a minor issue to dial numbers, as my fingers are much larger than those of a teenage girl. I hate pressing buttons with the very tip of my fingers, which I had to do. Overall: Very disappointing.
Alternative: I've been using the IPEVO Desktop phone for the office, which also has the bonus of having a speaker option. Sound quality is premium because it's not wireless, but you don't have to tie it to a computer; you hook it up to the internet line. For travel, I now use the FR33.2 phones (which I have given my road warriors), which has the best voice quality of all, plus portability. But it's USB, so you have to hook it up.

When I bought this item I had the expectation that a commonly available headset would work with it. However, after trying 4 different headsets without success, I obtained a replacement from Amazon. It was no different.
The issue the headset has is that it won't insert fully into the jack. Either the connector was designed inset too far or the plastic housing wasn't opened enough to allow clearance for the body of the headset connector to fit below the surface.
Netgear's "Engineering" department is working on a list of approved headsets that are "compatible". To my mind, if it won't work with the same headsets that my cell and cordless phones work with, it isn't worth having.
Otherwise, the phone was easy to setup and worked well enough for me to recommend it. But, not if you need hands-free.
The display does get quite warm after talking awhile. It isn't sufficient to bother, though. Just unexpected.
Amazon was on top of this issue with Email responses, sending out a replacement (even though I didn't ask for it), and a follow up phone call. Bravo, Amazon.
Very dissapointed, NOT recommended item! June 25, 2008 I got this phone 8 weeks ago and was very excited at the beginning. However after a very short time the phone became very slow. I have to wait about 10 sec. for the function to be processed after I press the button. I finally lost my patience and the phone went to the garbage!!! I strongly don't recommend this item to anyone who is normal, unless you are very curious and would like to see it on your own!
