great buy August 9, 2008 this receiver is perfect for the money--sound is awesome--with the hdmi wires only one wire is needed--a big plus for me is the a/b switch that allows me to have music playing in the backyard while someone can watch tv inside.highly recommend

Excellent Receiver At This Price Level July 30, 2008 I bought this receiver after purchasing (& returning) a Sony receiver that was broken right out of the box. I have never owned an Onkyo until this one, and I have been impressed. I primarily needed it to use with my HD-DVD player (replaced with a PS3) and my Xbox 360. I found the setup to be quite easy, and I used HDMI and optical cables. Yes, there is some confusion about HDMI audio, but I knew what I was getting considering the price level of this receiver! I have used the receiver quite a bit in the past 3 months since anytime I play videos games or watch rented movies it has to be on with my current setup. I have yet to have any issues with the unit, and I am very happy with my purchase. Is it the best on the market? Of course not, but I think it is the best at this price level. If you have $800-$1500 I'm sure you do a lot better, but if you just need a basic home theater receiver, I can recommend this unit.
The best of the inexpensive. July 19, 2008 This is the best of the below $300 models out there. You need to understand it won't pull sound from hdmi, so you have to pull a fiber line from each source for sound. If you use your TV for sound then you shouldn't be buying a receiver anyway. It is very simple to setup and use, and the capability of 7.1 makes it fill my living room with sound. I think it is well worth the price.
I love this receiver July 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Thanks to the other reviewers, I knew to forget about HDMI on this unit. It does have 2 optical jacks that work fine for my DVR and PS3. It has plenty of power for my small Klipsch satellite speakers. Fidelity is great. DSP options are good. Dolby Digital and DTS work like a champ. The remote is good with features to operate my TV and DVR. My only beef there is the lack of page up/page down so I do use my DVR remote when watching TV, but it's nice to be able to pause, FF, etc just by picking up the Onkyo remote. I really don't see the reason to spend more. Got mine for around $200. Quick Amazon shipping as always. I really love my Onkyo.
