 Great buy! July 24, 2008
Like a number of other reviewers I struggled with the incomplete instructions (including both printed and on the mini cd descriptions) for loading files and playlists. By a combination of Internet searching and some trial and error I finally discovered that the best way for me to do this was to use the "automatic" setting, which I believe to use some combination of MTP and MSC modes. I tried first to use the MSC setting, but found it impossible for me to do any successful "drag and drop" of mp3 or wma files in this mode, although there is possibly some way of doing this. In the "automatic" mode, however, there is no problem in either loading files by the "drag and drop" method or loading playlists from the Windows Media Player software.
I decided to buy this player because it represents the best value I could find ,coupled with its use of a single replaceable AAA battery, not only a great convenience but a source of power that will outlast even the best of internal rechargable batteries. I currently use standard alkaline AAA batteries, but one could also optionally use externally rechargeable AAA batteries. I also use a five year old iRiver mp3 player that uses a single AA battery, and works just as well today as when it was new, but has a much lower memory capacity than the Sansa unit.
 Too Many Flaws July 24, 2008
I bought this as a gift for my wife a year and a half ago. We had to get the original replaced because it kept resetting itself and deleting all of the files on it. When it was not doing that it was freezing up.
The second one has avoided the resetting and my wife has had it for about a year now. The problem it has is there are some .mp3 files that it just does not want to play. Those same files work on other mp3 players, Palms, and computers we have without a problem. We have deleted them off the device and tried again and the same tracks still do not want to play.
I bought myself a Creative Zen V Plus about a year ago. My wife tells me that I bought her the cheap piece of junk and got myself the good mp3 player. I may give my mp3 player to her or get her a decent one.
 Does not work correctly with audio books July 23, 2008
I have the 1GB version of this player and have used it for almost two years without any problems. I bought the m250 for added storage space.
I need a player to listen to music, audio books and the radio during my commute and assumed that the m250 would work as well as the earlier model. Not so. When you listen to a large audio book file and shut the unit off after fifteen or so minutes it does NOT go back to where you started but returns to the beginning of the track. If you try to fast forward it will jusmp to the next track. This problem has been reported by others on the Sandisk message board but since the product is discontinued Sandisk has offered no solution.
Another problem with the player is that the volume does not go up enough. It is hard to hear audio books in noisy situations like on the bus. The music and radio have a higher volume.
If you want a cheap player to listen to music it works fine. If you want to listen to audio books downloaded from the library look elsewhere.
 bang for your buck July 23, 2008
First day using it, right out of the package I hooked it up to my computer and had songs on it within minutes. For the price of this item these days, you cant go wrong. Ive read numerous bad reviews on this item and I cant tell you how picky those people are.
For under $30.00 bucks you get a simple,quick mp3 player AND FM radio...which i am listening to right now with considerably good reception.
The music playback is good, I mean...I didn't spend a couple hundred bucks here so I can only expect it to just play music, and it does it well.
Also went for a run/hike today, fits comfortably in your pocket, It is not heavy at all , earphones fit well and snug.
Basically...You should buy this, its worth the buckage.
Great for audiobooks and for kids! July 22, 2008
This is a great product for the price! I bought this for my 6 and 7 yr. olds mainly so that they could listen to audiobooks, but also for some music listening. I didn't want to spend too much because they lose things easily at this age! It has been perfect. The controls are a bit larger than average, they've had no problems operating it themselves, it holds its place when turned off (important for audiobooks), and it has held up well so far these first three months they've had it. A tip: Go to Librivox.org for free downloads of classic books for kids and adults--Great for long car rides!
