Great DVD, but a little heavy September 10, 2008 Great picture quality and I really like the fact that the battery is flat and fits on the bottom of the unit. The only drawback is that it is a little heavy. If you go to cnet.com, you'll find a review of this DVD player, and they mention the weight as a drawback as well.
6-Hour Battery Life is a deceiving feature September 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read other reviews that the battery life is based on screen image - adjusting brightness and contrast but there should be some feature on this product to let you know at what levels you can set for 3 hour, 4 hour and up to 6 hour battery life. I took this on a 4-hour plane ride and it only lasted 2 1/2 hours. Quite a disappointment. Pivoting screen delights my daughter and the image is fine Overall, I'm good with this purchase.
enjoying it September 6, 2008 I've only had the DVD payer a short time, but to date it's great. Bought it for my bathroom so I could enjoy movies as I take a long bath. No problems. And I like that I could take it in the road it I wanted to... haven't yet but I can see doing it. I look forward to using it for the long term.
Things you should know... September 6, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I purchased this player based on the good reviews on Amazon.com. Very first impressions were good. The red is a cool color. As I played with it and discovered what it does not do, I became more and more disappointed. I have a lot of British comedy DVDs that I was looking forward to watching on Atlantic flights. I can confirm that this player is absolutely region one only. However, it gets worse. I have some region free British DVDs that also will not play on the Sony. It is NTSC only. No PAL. There is some discussion about how long the battery lasts. I haven't tested this, but suppose you want a second battery. How much do you suppose a second battery for a $165 device would cost? $30.00? $50.00? $70.00? Nope, try $100.00! Check it out the part number is NP-FX110. Suppose you want to connect this player to a TV. Your only option is composite video. The lowest video quality connection method. No S-VHS, No Component video. Several other players in this price range have SD card slots. Some even have USB connectivity and can play still images/video from external sources. The Sony doesn't. In all fairness, if all you are interested in is playing Region 1 DVDs on the built in screen and don't care about additional features this is not a bad choice. The picture quality isn't bad and it has a 800*480 resolution screen. But I'm sending mine back. The lack of PAL support was a deal breaker. I'm getting a Philips PET1030.
satisfied September 1, 2008 Im totally satisfied with this purchase, picture quality is very crisp, a little pricey but worth every penny.
