5 out of 5 stars Garmin 660 works well despite occasional misdirections.   August 11, 2008
We've used our new Garmin nuvi 660 widescreen GPS navigator frequently for the last two months and find it almost indispensible now. I've used it to find parks and trailheads in rural areas, etc. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, the screen easy to see in bright light. The touch screen is easier to use with a fingertip than the one on our Magellan 4250, which sometimes requires using a pen tip. The only problem I've noticed is that the unit sometimes seems confused at major freeway maze-type interchanges and gives strange directions which would take you out of the way, but if you ignore instructions you know to be wrong, it will quickly recalculate the correct (faster) route.

Excellent, love it! It has only been fooled by one address I have input into it and that was an obscure business location (water treatment plant)

This product is now listed on the Garmin site as discontinued, along with most of the 6XX Nuvi's. Just so you know.

4 out of 5 stars Dependable and good value   August 11, 2008
This unit had all the features I thought I'd like initially. I was looking to get a unit with bluetooth hands-free connectivity, FM transmitter and the FM Traffic receiver. I hardly, if ever, use the FM transmitter as its never clear and I just hook up my Creative MP3 player through the tape player. The FM traffic receiver was nice to have it was pretty accurate for the 3 month trial period but not really necessary. Funny story: one time as I was about to take an alternate route suggested by the Garmin, I noticed that there was a longgg line of cars - figured I would stay on the original route and it turns out that was quite free - kind of funny to think that those people might have all had GPS units leading them on the wrong alternate path and creating a traffic jam ...

The bluetooth really disappoints me though. I have a blackberry Pearl and it cannot connect half the time. When it does connect, it stays connected, but when it doesn't there's an irritating beep and it continuously tries to re-connect. I usually have to de-activate the bluetooth on the Blackberry.

As for the maps, I am very impressed. It does a great job in re-calculating and doesn't have you do u-turns as much. In fact, this is the major factor in my rating: the core functionality is really accurate and the TTS works well. My friends have bought other cheaper alternatives and the directions have not been upto par.

5 out of 5 stars I made the right decision.   August 10, 2008
After doing a lot of research on which GPS I wanted, I took a leap and went for the Garmin 660. I had been wanting Bluetooth for my cellphone and an MP3 player for the car. I did not see myself as power user on any specific feature so having an all-in-one sounded right for me. It has been perfect. The spoken street names are very helpful. I would recommend this product to anyone that wanted a little bit of it all.
