Nuvi 270 August 3, 2008 Great product, the Garmin Nuvi 270. Took a trip from Boston to Labrador City, Labrador and it was very helpful. Able to find distance to gas, food, lodging plus gave phone numbers to contact lodging in advance. Took a side trip to Boothbay Harbor, ME on the way back and was able to find lodging and restaurant openings in high season by calling ahead with info from Nuvi. Plan to use it in Europe in October to do the same things. Great to have map, directions, info on North America and Europe in one package under $300.
Garmin GPS July 30, 2008 Great GPS and easy to use. Instructions are very limited but after a few minutes we found it to be very user friendly and pretty self-explanitory. The price was one of the best features.
Leave it in the box if traveling to France or Italy July 26, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just returned back from France and Italy with this product which I purchased before traveling. Absolutely useless. Had me making u-turns on freeways, we nearly ended up in Spain on one trip while the device added 4 hours to a 1.5 hour trip. Rome was a joke as it consistently "updated" every 2 seconds and could never make up its mind. Tried it also for walking but you have to have an IFR pilots license to be able to work out directions. In built up areas like Paris and Rome it couldn't identify areas even when i was standing directly at the point of location and common restaurants and other attractions. The South of France was the worst and even when you tried to scroll out to a larger view to do some form of location pin-pointing the device kept going back to micro-map mode. Do not waste your money. Try one of the others that has Euro maps. I have a Garmin in my cars for the US and that is why i purchased this. The US Garmins are awesome but this product will do you more harm that good internationaly.
Good value July 25, 2008 A very good value for the money, with both N American and European maps pre-loaded. Its small size makes it easy to travel with. I've used it on both continents and it works quite well, or at least up to my expectations. It seems to get confused occasionally, but usually sorts itself out if given 30 seconds. Of course, 30 seconds can be a long time when you're driving through the middle of a large foreign city, so I'd be even happier if this never happened. The only real oddity I could cite is the tendency for the verbal instructions to be overly detailed, even to the point of confusion initially. Rather than telling you to go straight at an intersection, it will tell you to 'keep right' or 'keep left' unless the intersection is exactly 90 degrees. You get used to it, but it's weird.
worked great in the U.K. July 23, 2008 Purchased, took to Europe, and had great results. Got me everywhere I wished to go for a month of a driving tour. The voice sometimes got irritating, but other than that, I was very pleased.
