Garmin 660 is similar to garmin 760 September 1, 2008

Garmin 660 has almost the same features as Garmin 760, except it does not have the multipoint feature and the msn feature. Garmin 660 is under $300. I have a 760 but I think the msn feature is not essential.
found other sellers selling the same model for lower price with free shipping. waiting for amazon.com to lower the price of this model to match other seller's price.

My cousin from Seattle introduced me to the Garvin nuvi760 on his recent stay with us. He had purchased it within the past year for $700 and felt, at the time it was a good price. I liked the features but wasn't willing to pay that much. You can imagine my delight to find the Amazon price to be so attractive! Now I've just returned from a week on the road using it and it is marvelous. Always feel in touch with where you are and the sights close by. It is extremely user friendly with easy access to accommodation info and easy phone calling access with the bluetooth feature which we totally found to be useful and so very convenient. Highly recommend this item!
Really a good product September 1, 2008
I have only had a couple problems with this product. It wants to send me through town when there is a bypass available, and I have been unable to get it registered. Otherwise I've been very happy with this garmin.
Much improved over previous models September 1, 2008
Pros: We have been long time fans of Garmin GPS units. Our other Garmin is a C330. The newer 760 has a larger, brighter screen. In addition, it has many enhanced features over the C330. The 760 is thinner and much more portable than the C330. We expect we can much more easily take the 760 on our walking and hiking adventures.
We also found the Garmin 760 GPS to work better for us than the one that comes with the Toyoto Prius: http://theprius.blogspot.com/
Cons: First. The audio on the 760 does not seem as loud and crisp as the C330. The C330 has two larger speakers whereas the thinnest of the 760 must prevent the use of the same dual large, speakers. Second. The power connector on the 760 is much different than the C330. The C330 uses a typically small round power connector. The 760 uses a v-shaped, plastic connector similar to some cell phones. I am not a big fan of these connectors. My experience has been they break or crack more easily.
Garmin 760 - No regrets September 1, 2008
This is possible the best investment I have made for my family for use on vacation and for use around our town in order to find locations of stores, where friends live or just wanting to see aproximatly how far it is to to library, grocery store and back home again. The 760 can be operated easily by anyone wishing to get directions or wanting to locate an address in another state. Having purchase the Nuvi 760 at the beginning of August '08 and a 1100 mile trip planned for mid August, I played with the Nuvi for about a week and half before our trip. I was truly amazed as to how easy it was to use just pulling it out of the box and programing in local destinations and also our destinations for our hotels, side trips, etc. The unit came with power cord for the car and an A/C adapter for charging out side of the car, along with a USB cord to download packages from Garmin. The Garmin Nuvi 760 is not my first GPS. I also own a Garmin E-trex Legend GPS which is great for hiking. The greatest feature on the Garmin Nuvi 760 is the menu: where to?, View Map and Travel kit. The where to menu has 10 lisitings. these listings are Adresses-in which you plug in the State, the city, address you are wanting to travel to and the Nuvi will plot your course not nessarily the shortest route but it will plot your course quickly and give you the directions to your destination. It has a lisiting of food,lodging. . .which includes shopping at about any kind of store or shops you are looking for. On our trip we needed to make a stop at yeah your guess it . . . Wal-Mart. While on the highway my wife plugged in Wal- mart and it gave us direction to the closest one to us which save us from traveling an additional 60 mile out of our way. We used that feature to make serveral stops during our trip which included getting fuel, lunch and lodging. If your are looking for a store it will give you the locations of that chain that are local and within a 60 mile radius. For someone who is not familar with the unit and to pick it up and plug in address it is simpler then calling and getting directions from the store or friends.
View Map part of the menu is great because you can zoom in or out on the map screen to see what route the Nuvi has plotted for you to travel. You can go to a sub menu in which you can ask for the shortest route to your destination if you wish, but keep in mind this may take you on back roads(dirt). Under the sub menu for navagation it has Faster time, in which you will get to your destination faster, it also has shorter distance in which I mentioned you could end up on a dirt road and it will take off road in which it will take you the short route with no roads at all (just like as the crow flys) plotted for you you have to pick out your own route. Back to the view Map menu. . . If you have picked out you destination say your local library, this screen will tell you at what time you will arrive and how far your next turn is so many mile or how feet it is before you turn. If you have not plugged in your destination it shows your speed in the lower left corner and the direction you are traveling in the lower right.
Touching the screen in the lower left corner will bring a dashboard showing your speed, direction, average speed, overall average speed, time moving and stopped and a odometer that can be tripped to show total distance traveled.
The travel kit on the menu has catagories which include a the MP3 player, Audible book player, a picture viewer, a calculator, Language guide, a travel guide, a Savers guide, world clock, curency converter and a unit converter. Most all of these items on the menu are a sample pruduct and can be udated from Garmin.com.
Last but not least on the features is the ability to plug in longutude and latitude coordinates. There has been over the past fews year books that have been publish with coordiates of many landmarks of our country using longitude and latitudes coordinates which makes things very interesting in getting to them. It can be alot of fun to use in teaching about longitude and laditude coordinates.
The 760 has the ability for you to use use it as a Bluetooth for hands free operation of your cell phone.
In all this is really a great unit for the novice or person that has experience with GPS units being used in the car or if you're going to use it for sight seeing at one of your destinations. I highly recommend this product.
