 Worth every penny April 12, 2008
The passport has been worth absolutely every penny. It's every bit as good as the other reviews I've read say it is. If you are on a budget, but need some good protection, this is without a doubt the most bang for the buck. It's not the best possible system, but it's damn near, and for ridiculously less money.
If you're still reading this review, you're wasting precious time that could be spent ordering it.

I have purchase the Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector with the Red Display back in March 2008. This unit is easy to operate and the red display offers easy reading at a glance. You may want to turn the AutoMute feature off if you drive with the radio on, because you may not hear the radar detector go off. Dim Mode is good for night time driving. Overall, this Escort radar detector is outstanding and meets my requirements.

This is a great product and it has already payed for itself. Saved my butt plenty of times already. It has picked up cops over hills and everything. I would recommend this radar detector to anyone.
Great Radar Detector March 18, 2008
I owned the prior generation of this model. It performed well and since utilizing this updated model ; Escort again has a winner. This is my fifth Escort brand detector (gifts and personal use) if you read the directions and review their web site for user tips this will function as stated.

really looked at all available radar/laser detectors and decided to try the 8500 X50. Have been using a 20 year old battery operated Escort that has been very reliable despite not taking great care of it over the years. The 8500 X50 is fantastic. Got hit with Lidar outside of Denver, CO and it worked flawlessly. Works very well for all types or radar and gives plenty of advance warning time. It still takes operator care to know when and where to best utilize it's full potential but it is without a doubt a great unit and equalizer. Highly recommended.
