| Customer Reviews:
Great recorder February 15, 2008 We have ordered several of these recorders for oral history work by graduate students. We find them to be compact, efficient, and a good value. Recordings are easy to download with no installation of extra software - we recommend them highly.
What a bargain February 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the price, this little unit has great voice replication and is loaded with features, while being very easy to use. I really think this was one of the best buys of 2007.
Excellent Voice Recorder! February 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this unit sometime back in November of 2007 after many years of using tapes and will not look back. I also used my Palm Zire 72 for audio recording, but the internal mic is not all that sensitive and the files are large. I was discovering that my tape recorders were far superior to the PDA recorder, so I needed a quality digital recording device that could match or beat my tape recorders.
Its nice being able to record all that audio, and the quality is so clear. Been using tapes for many years, and have finally been able to retire them. Although I do keep my tape recorders around for compatibility purposes.
One of the major pluses to this unit is that its Mac compatible and that there are no cables or third party software required to transfer the audio files. Also a major advantage is the high compression quality of the WMA format.
On the downside of the unit.
1. The internal speaker is pathetic (my tape recorder's are better). 2. There does not seem to be much battery life after the unit's battery icon switches to half full. I have had the thing die on me during a lecture and that was annoying. 3. WMA files are not very Mac friendly as one cant open them, edit them, copy them to your iPod or burn CD's without third party software.
Besides the problems I mentioned above the unit is great and has been a blessing.
Great digiatl recorder January 19, 2008 I carefully read the reviews of the different recorders and finally chose the Olympus WS-100 64 MB Digital Voice Recorder with USB Interface for its ease of use and quality. For what I need it is great. I need to record meetings in an open room (usually about 35 people). The recorder and the mic I got are perfect for this. The recorder picks up everything. It has great battery life too. I had been using an old cassette recorder (not a cheap item in its day)and the Olympus easily out shines that.
Olympus digital voice recorder January 7, 2008 Recorder works well and is easy to operate. As some reviewers stated, recorder playback sound quality is marginal. Transfers of recordings to computer is easily accomblished thru USB port. Sound quality good from computer play back. I am not sure if it is just my recorder but the latch that holds the battery compartment lid closed is not reliable. Consiquently, from time to time the lid flies open and the battery shoots out. I have resorted to tapping the lid closed with duct tape.
