This pointer works, but only for PowerPoint. I naively assumed that if you could use it to go back/forward on PowerPoint, you could also use it for a iPhoto slideshow or some other application. Not so. You can't set it up to do anything other than send pageUp/pageDown, and alt-tab.

I purchased this wireless presenter for my laptop for doing presentations at different meetings. I've used it several times and it works very nice as advertised. The four buttons work nicely to forward and reverse the slides and darken the screen plus the laser works for pointing, no matter what distance from the screen within 30 feet.
The on-off button is a little tricky as others have mentioned, but works okay. Just make sure to turn it off as I can see problems with dead batteries when packing the unit inside the computer case. It even comes with a nice cloth case to pack the unit in. Overall, nice product for the price!
Works on my Mac Air April 24, 2008
Works great on my Mac and my PC. For Windows ,j ust plug the IR receiver to the USB , then turn the pointer ON (the switch is on the right side when the unit is facing you). If you plug the IR receiver in your Mac ( I have Leopard as my OS) ,your mac will detect it as a new keyboard device. Skip thru all that step and run your presentations and test. It's that easy.

I have used this over the span of a year to give roughly 15-20 presentations. Does exactly what a presentation pointer should do, and does it well. I honestly have changed the battery only ONCE in a year; just remember to turn off the pointer. It's an absolutely great investment if you give presentations often!

I use PowerPoint for presentations, and like to roam. This allows me to roam quite a ways and still be able to control my slides. The laser pointer isn't very powerful. It would be fine in a room with 30 or so people, but for larger audiences, I would recommend a separate laser pointer that is more powerful. I've forgotten to turn it on a couple of times, and of course it doesn't work when turned off, but after figuring that out, I haven't had any problems with it. The blank feature works well, although that is not something I regularly use. I don't use the program switcher button at the top, and am not sure how helpful it really is. If you are doing other than PowerPoint, there isn't much use for this remote. For PowerPoint, it is fantastic.
