1 out of 5 stars Defective Phone(s)   September 1, 2007

I could not use phone. The base unit would not activate, no dial tone, all buttons dead.

I notified Amazon and received another phone. The second phone was also defective. Amazon customer service is very responsive.

The 2nd phone did activate but the base unit was partially defective, some buttons did not work. Button #1,2 and 3 and the answer "message" button were dead, thus couldn't dial or listen to messages from base unit.

I have used panasonic phones for many years and this is the first time this problem has occured.

What are the odds in receiving two defective same product model phones?

5 out of 5 stars Panasonic 2 line   August 23, 2007

Does everything it is supposed and well. We have three phones on this system and the only negative is that when you delete a call from the list it only deletes it on that phone. Each phone has to save numbers or delete calls separately and not on the whole system.

5 out of 5 stars Great Phone   August 3, 2007

I have a home-based business, and so I need a two-line phone that is cordless with at least one additional cordless handset. This was difficult to find. Most come with a corded phone and a cordless handset.
The Panasonic phone is reasonably priced and has very good quality sound. The setup was very simple. I would definitely recommend this phone.

4 out of 5 stars New and Improved?   July 24, 2007

I was worried about some of the negative reviews but guessed that the problems were related to the user's phone company, not the phone. I had the 2.4 GHz KX-TG2740 version for a couple years and it was great. This one turns out to be almost the same, which is great because I don't have to learn something new now.

But to be perfectly honest, some of the improvements are also a little annoying. They offer more variety in ring tones and have a louder volume. I have one phone set as line one (home) by default and another set as line 2 (my work) by default. But the volume was so loud that even with the phones in opposite sides of the house, you couldn't tell which one was ringing which sound. I finally had to turn off line 2 from ringing on line one's handset altogether. So now the display on line one's phone reads, "Ringer off Line2." I have to read the manual again, but I'm not sure I have the same control with ring tones on the base.

Unlike the old version, you have to buy the belt clip separately. Even though I rarely used the belt clip, I had it on my phone so I could tell the difference from the home phone. These phones are smaller than the old ones so I used my magic wand to shrink the old belt clip to fit on the new phone.

Again, I have to read the manual again or maybe one of the negative reviews was right. I thought one of the features was that the light would flash on the phone when there was a message? I use the built in answering machine for line one but for line 2 I use the phone company's voice mail. The phone company might have an extra feature for extra money to send a signal that you have a message. But I have left messages both ways and the light never flashes. The only time the light is on, is if it is on the charger. I would think the light should glow when someone is using the phone and flash when there is a message. But it doesn't so I wonder what is the point of the new light feature?

Overall, I don't think they succeeded in improving the old version except for increasing the GHz. But the old version was awesome, so I guess this one is too.

I wrote the above over a year ago and did re-read the manual. My light does now blink when there is a message waiting. And I now know that this version was not only new but YES IT WAS IMPROVED. I know this because only a couple months after using it I started having problems. Because it was under warranty, I sent it away and set up my old one again. I greatly missed the improvements.

Now I'm sure you are a little nervous about my comments, "having problems" and "sending it away". Panasonic is awesome and given a choice of brands, I will always choose Panasonic and pay extra over the competitors. As it turns out I started having problems with all sorts of electronics in my home. So either some angry witch put a curse on me and my home or we were hit by lightning.

During the past year I have also had 3 different phone companies and it does make a difference. I was so annoyed the other day because my caller id wasn't working. But it wasn't the phone's fault, it was the phone company having problems.

I love this phone so much, I bought an extended warranty when they called last month. I never do that.

2 out of 5 stars Not At Advertised   July 13, 2007

I am quite disappointed with this phone. The device is advertised as GigaRange. Well, you would expect 60 feet to be with in that range. Actually, I expected I would be able to take the phone to my back yard or even to the street and still be able to communicate. When I had a problem in my garage and tried to Intercom with my wife at home (about 70 feet) the connection to the base station simply died. Previously I owned the Panasonic 2.4G 4-line device (this one has 2 input lines) and it worked very well even as far as 180 feet. The KX6700 base station is located exactly where the 2.4G base station used to be but the reception is very poor.

Furthermore, I found the voice quality to be unacceptable. I can barely hear the called and all the handsets are set to maximum volume.

Other than that, the device looks nice and has good features. Memory, answering machine, intercom, call transfer, etc. are all working nicely. Still, I would not recommend this set to anyone who has a standard sized home. If you have a smaller home with not too many wall, this phone should address your needs nicely.
