Vista Scanner May 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this scanner because it is compatible with Vista software. I had no problem with installation. I previously owned an HP but with an upgrade to Vista--HP no longer supported my old scanner. That's another story.
I would say that there is a noticeable sound difference. The Cannon is much louder. I love the copy feature and use it often. I haven't really learned the scanning software because it is setup to scan into .pdf format and I typically like to scan into .jpg format which requires a few more steps to do. I think I will like using the included scanning software as I use it more. I just don't have that much experience with it yet.
I also think the film/slide scanner is a bit flimsy. The HP unit came with a hefty little attachment for scanning slides that plugged into the scanner. On this unit, you pull off a paper cover to expose the negative film to the light and the slides have little plastic holders to fit into.
I'm not complaining. This is a nice little scanner.
Great value. May 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This scanner was ordered for my wife, the scrap booking nut. She absolutely loves it.
Canoscan 4400 attached to Mac mini May 24, 2008 I'd love to scan dozens of slides at a time but don't have the bucks so I found this a great value for the price in a slide scanner. Software is limited but works fine on my Mac. My only concern is that the slide holder seems a bit flimsy and I hope it holds up until I get everything scanned. Works great with photos too.
Nice scanner, but really USB-sensitive May 22, 2008 Love the scanner... when it works. I found that it is *really* sensitive about the length of the USB cable. It doesn't mind going through two or three USB hubs, but if the length of any of the USB cables between the scanner and your computer is over 6' in length (e.g. 10', 16' etc.), the scanner software just hangs (whereas my USB hard drives are just fine-and-dandy with the longer USB cable lengths). So just be aware of this limitation when hooking the scanner up to your computer.
Works as adverstised! May 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This scanner has performed slightly above my expectations. I have scanned over 1,600 negatives so far and the resulting digital images look great. I wish it could do more at one time but six is okay. Of course, most of my negatives are in strips of 4 so I can only do 4 at a time but it moves along pretty quickly and is very easy to load. I have not done any slides yet but I assume they will be as good as the negatives. I have only scanned a couple of photos and they came out fine. The software works great, only a couple of crashes in all of my hours using it. I have never figured out what the buttons on the scanner do so I just use the software.
