Go, Canon, Go! April 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Canon Pixma iP4500 Photo Inkjet Printer (2171B002) I've gone through EPSON and HP printers and now use a Canon. This printer comes with all you need EXCEPT: the USB printer cable???!?!??
The CANON company NEEDS to include the USB printer cable. It makes no sense to buy a printer and not have the means to communicate with THE COMPUTER!!!

My wife has run this printer mercilessly and it hasn't missed a beat. Because she uses it so much, I purchased a CISS for it so she won't run out of ink. The best part is that it is about nine times less expensive and it prints exactly like it did with the cartridges. It feeds with either from the top or with the push of a button, it will load from the lower cassette. It has never once jammed or fed incorrectly. A truly wonderful printer.
Quality Photo Printing at a low price April 15, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
After my Epson color printer became junk due to clogged heads (something that is common with Epson and one reason I try to avoid them now) I was having to make due with my Canon Multipass MP730 copier/fax/scanner/printer for photo printing. Now the MP730 does a very passable job of color printing. But I found myself getting more and more frustrated with try to get accurate color rendition when printing from high-end graphics software like Adobe Photoshop. Basically you simply cannot get good results unless you have a color profile that matches your printer and paper and these just aren't available for that printer. So I needed a newer printer that gave good, accurate results and wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. I liked Canon's method of doing print cartridges and found it less costly than Epson's and my MP730 has been a great workhorse, so this Pixma was a perfect choice. I also wanted one that could do CD label printing and an accessory for doing this is available on Ebay, so that helped in the decision.
So, after setting up the printer, installing the software, loading in some Canon Pro Photo paper and selecting the right profile in Photoshop, I was able to print one of my more challenging photos...and got a nearly perfect print. What a difference from my old Multipass. I was able to find custom printing profiles for this printer from my favorite source for photo paper (Red River Papers) and the results are quite pleasing. The Canon software allows me to save my profile settings so when using one of these custom profiles it's a piece of cakes to change from the default settings that I use for normal printing to my custom settings for high-quality photo prints. If you are serious about having great looking photo prints, and don't need a larger format printer, this is an excellent printer to go with. The only negatives are the lack of a USB cable and also that the CD tray doesn't come with it, but for the price, it's hard to quibble. Highly recommended.
Good solid printer, easy to use April 13, 2008 The printer was very easy to set up and start using. It's quiet and versatile, with two paper feed modes that make it easy to go from paper to heavier stock. Photo printing is very good, and the print cartridges are easy to load. For the price, I can't imagine a better printer.
Exceeded my expectations April 13, 2008 I've only had this printer for one day, but I want to do a review before I forget. I've owned nothing but Canon ink jet printers for the past 6 years--S450, S600 & S750. Those were very good printers and this iP4500 is a good unit too. Colors are pretty accurate and the resolution on text is amazing--even very small type has outstanding resolution--better than the aforementioned printers.
I guess I wont be able to buy cheap ink anymore as there are small circuit cards at the bottom of each tank to verify that the ink is Canon ink. Still if this printer holds up for at least 2 or 3 years (which seems to be about the maximum life of the Canon printers I've owned) I will be happy. Here's a picture of my start page on a Sony Trinitron monitor and the printer's page right next to the monitor. It has a little bit of trouble with the orange color, but the text is outstanding. The resolution on the text on the paper seems to be better than what is on the monitor:
[...] BTW, do not waste your money on the Canon iP1800. It is just as bad as this printer is good.
