Better than advertised! June 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Canon CanoScan 8800F Color Film/Negative/Photo Scanner (2168B002) I had been contemplating purchasing a Nikon slide scanner for my needs until I came across the Canon 8800F. At the price (1/3 that of the Nikon)coupled with the high praise mentioned in the earlier reviews I decided to go with Canon. Ordered from Amazon on Sunday, recieved Wednesday and up and scanning the same day. The software setup was very easy. I ran a few trial scans to get the feel of the process then scanned a 159 slide, slide show in about 3 hours at the 1200dpi. The slides were a mixture of Kodachrome 64 and Fujichrome 50 and scanned results the best I have ever made. I have also made some scans at the 2400dpi level and even more impressed with the quality of the digital image. I now only have to evaluate the added scanning time vs higher/lower resolution for future scans. With the Canoscan 8800 there was no color correction needed and results are excellent. I have approximately 7500 slides to review and upload into my computer. They consist of Underwater, Nature and Family subjects and I look forward to finally being able to archive these images digitally. Bill
Very pleased June 20, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My wife have used several scanners over the years, that were built into a multi-purpose machine. We wanted to scan in old photos and negatives, just go through everything we have and get it digital. We bought the CanoScan 8800F because of previous experience with Canon products, because of the $178 price and because of the high end (enough) specs. Well, I have to say, we were quite impressed. It's very easy to use (with the included software (Photoshop Elements 6), it's fast (using the USB 2.0 interface), and the quality of the images is excellent. In particular, it's great how it automatically scans strips of negatives and puts each picture into a separate file. We've scanned in several thousand pictures in the past couple months.
Great Scanner June 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great Scanner. Took only a few minutes to install and start using. Very easy to use and has good options to optimize your photos. Scanned over 100 old photos which were faded and results were great.
Sent back within 5 hours... June 18, 2008 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this item based on the reviews I'd read and the fact that the overall opinion seemed to be positive. I received the unit yesterday and within 5 hours had it packed and ready for return today. I went through the install process exactly as written on both my Vista and XP machines and in both cases got the exact same error message every time I tried to preview or scan. It suggested I turned the scanner off and on again. I did that. Many times. To no avail. I called Canon and spoke with a very pleasant and helpful support rep for about 2 1/2 hours. She said there was nothing more she could do and suggested I return the unit to Canon (she would arrange this) and I would receive a 'refurbished' unit in exchange. At this point the unit had been in my possession for about 5 hours. Obviously not an acceptable option. I've processed a return with Amazon and will continue looking.
Best scanner - especially for the price! June 18, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have only used this to scan prints, documents, and magazine articles so I can't comment on film or slide scanning. Compared to other scanners I've used from HP and Microtek, and scanning I've done on Multifunction devices, the Canon CanoScan 8800F is by far the fastest scanner I've used! The software is also very simple and easy to use and set up (at least on my Mac), and it doesn't install a bunch of extraneous annoying software that pops up every time you restart you computer (like Microtek). If you want a reliable, easy to use scanner that is very fast with almost no warm-up time due to its LED technology, this is the one! And you know since it's a Canon that it will produce fantastic quality images. I am a huge fan of Canon's products and they have delivered another great one here!
