5 out of 5 stars So far so good   July 26, 2008
I haven't really had much time to run this printer through its paces, but I can tell you that the print quality is superb, and that it makes nearly no noise at all. It has two paper trays one in back, and one inside, to give you many options for paper handling. They have made setting up this printer so easy, that I firmly believe anyone can do it. Overall it seems to be a terrific product.

5 out of 5 stars great printer, scanner, copier   July 21, 2008
This printer is the best i have ever had. Pricey but well worth it! Great photo colors. Easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars Ugly But Functions Beautifully   July 16, 2008
This is my second Canon printer, replacing my Canon S900 printer. The photo printing quality is superb, faster than my prior printer and far quieter. Having two paper inputs makes switching between photo paper and printing paper easy, but you need to remember to select which source you need, because there is no automatic selection. Printer utility function works well. Inserting the print head was a bit awkward, but you can check alignment manually and automatically. Scanner works very nicely. The footprint is pretty large. Interface is easy to use, and printing from memory cards and camera is a dream. I'm hoping that the Pixma MP970 is not the ink hog my earlier Canon printer was, but it's too early to tell that yet. Seven ink tanks will make ink expensive, but the photo quality makes is worth it. Ordered mine through Crutchfield, and they delivered it in two days without shipping costs. One complaint: Needs optional Bluetooth adapter (bummer), and Canon store is out of stock.

2 out of 5 stars If it wasn't for the ink tanks.....   July 12, 2008

I have no issues with the quality of the printing or the scanning or the copying.

I can't rate this product higher than 2 stars based on the fact that the device does not work for any functions if you get an ink tank error. The logic behind this escapes me. Fixing this oversight would do a lot to improve my respect for the device.

The Canon Pixma MP970 was reviewed by a number of the publications to which I subscribe. All-In-One Photoprinter. I purchased it at a good price. It arrived on time from Amazon. It was well packaged. Taking it out of the box and placing it on my desk I found it to be very big and heavy. It has a large footprint. It comes with a flyer with clear and detailed instruction for setting it up and obtaining a test color and print. There is also an manual and a CD with print drivers and a manual to install on a hard drive. After following all of the set-up instructions - the printer did not work. The error message on the LCD was not in the manuals. I called Canon technical support (Friday afternoon at 5 PM). The tech support answered in less than a minute and took me through trouble shooting the problem. The tech support supervisor was consulted and agreed that the MP970 was broken and needed repair. With the nearest Canon repair shop very inconvenient to access, I returned the MP970 for a refund. I purchased the Canon Pixma iP4500 - a photoprinter from Amazon. The reason is clear - Canon manufactures top flight equipment and more important tech support is available - even at inconvenient hours. I decided that I did not need a large footprint all-in-one multifunction printer since my major use is printing photos and text. Finally, I have found that the Pixma iP4500 is a wonderful printer - and very fast.
