Amazing! July 24, 2008 I bought this iPod back in January to replace a dying 1st Generation Nano. The two are nothing alike. The Touch destroys any other iPod in comparison, and is certainly worth the money. As long as you have WiFi access, this is a must have for people who enjoy convenience. I love the simplicity of the Safari Browser and Youtube apps. The videos I downloaded, and the ones on Youtube look amazing on a nice wide display, and I love the newly amplified sound of music. If you're easily amused (God knows I am) you'll be excited every time you touch the screen and make something happen. I haven't tested the iTunes app on it, because I get my music elsewhere, but I assume it works great. Anyone can use this device. When you buy it, just plug it in, find your Router password, and you're good to go! The iTouch is an amazing device!
Pleasantly surprised July 24, 2008 After I received my ipod touch I didn't really know what to expect. All I knew is I needed more storage space and I thought the touch aspect was cool. I had no idea it came with wifi. So when I got it and saw that you could watch youtube video's i was hooked.
The screen is surprisingly big which is nice. The headphones it comes with are a slight upgrade from the old ipod nano headphones I have.
The itunes browsing feature is very cool as well. Now that they released all the different applications for it, there's no reason not to get one if you're looking to purchase an mp3 player. It does take a while to get the hang of navigating it.
I would also recommend buying a protective case for it. Only once you're holding the touch do you realize just how thin it is. I bought the griffin iclear which is working fine.
Great for Travel July 24, 2008 I purchased this device primarily to use on a recent trip to Mexico. The resort we stayed had wireless internet so I was able to keep up with my mail. The screen really is a bit small but it is a worthwhile trade off to not have to carry a laptop. I also moved all my music and recorded books to the device and it holds everything. I like the controls a lot better than I did my old i-pod. If the I-phone ever becomes available with Verizon I am sure that my wife would upgrade. This is a very useful device.
Great touch, but July 24, 2008 The battery is shock, for the price that we pay Apple Inc, they can't make a battery last longer than two hours.
A major disappointment... July 24, 2008 When the Touch was introduced, this new iPod left me, the happy owner of seven predecessors, unusually cold. I couldn't understand why not the WHOLE front of the device was a screen, creating not only a stunning look but also a real Wide-Screen. The aspect ratio of the current screen is 1:1.5 which is certainly not the genuine Wide-Screen 9:16 / 1:1.78 format. On top of that, the whole thing looked a little bit too toyish for my taste. And again Apple practically ignored the fact that the Euro and the USD are two different currencies which means that this 32 GB Touch costs 725 USD in the Euroland Apple stores. If the Touch 32 GB is value for money at a price of 499 USD [Apple's US store price, in which I'm not allowed to shop], it certainly isn't at 725. I know this sounds whiny and the solution is simply to avoid the Apple store like the plague and find some Asian web-site, but Apple just comes across as insulting instead of inviting this way.
However, in spite of all that I bought one, and well...actually owning and using it indeed leaves me cold. I miss the click-wheel, which may be less spectacular but in my opinion is so much more clever and user friendly than the Touch operating scheme. I find the last one fragmented, and without the possibility to go forth and back, step by step. I'm sick and tired to always have to return to the 'basic' button before going on. The user-functions are not part of one unifying concept like with the -rightly famous- wheel. They should have kept it, hidden in the touch-screen and magically appearing when needed. I have no idea why there's so little room for film titles and why they are not listed in the same position as the screen:'lenghtwise' instead of 'widthwise'. Especially with TV-series this is an annoyance because the episode-numbers are off-screen when the lenght of the title exceeds two words.[PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong and inform me that this setting can be changed]. Of course Apple has again made some great accessories redundant, I can't use a splendid portable charger with the Touch [it's UNIVERSAL: works with every cell-phone, camera, and iPod untill now] which is a nuisance because as always the built-in battery is pathetic. For the audiophiles: don't expect any improvement in sound-quality since there isn't. On the contrary, the 5.5 gen is still superior and thus sounds better than this 'improved' iPod. I DO like the glass screen btw!
The following is my own fault, so I can't blame this machine for it: I just don't get the importance of the wi-fi thing. I have a laptop which I always have with me and I haven't discovered what the advantage is to do the 'wireless things' with the Touch instead of my laptop. And why sent e-mails with the Touch when you can sms and mms with your phone? Downloading music or video while I'm on the move is, in my experience, very uncomfortable. I have other things to do or on my mind then. I bought the Touch for the big screen [which IS great] and the less fragile Flash-memory. And the supposedly amazing technical qualities of course...but I'm sorry: I'm not impressed or amused by them.
