My Samsung TV September 30, 2008 I did research on several brands of TV's, such as going to retailers and visually comparing the picture quality, reviews, specifications, ratings, contrast, size for my area of placement. I took the measurements of W x H x D, then measured the space where I would be placing the TV. Then decided where I would purchase the product. I decided to purchase my Samsung TV from Amazon, which had a special on at the time which included free white glove delivery, bingo that delivery sold me. I have purchased many items over time, and I have always been satisfied with Amazons service. The main thing is to do research, don't let some salesman sell you something you may not like.
Samsung tv September 30, 2008 I ordered the Samsung flatscreen tv on Monday and it was delivered within 4 days, uncartoned and in working condition when the delivery crew left. Product performs as advertised. Excellent delivery service by Amazon organization...and the price was lower than local mass merchants charge.
Great HDTV, no price protection ANYMORE SINCE SEPT. 1 September 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After many months of research I chose the LN46A650, its great, no regrets. I suggest that regarding shipment, track the progress and CALL the shipper CEVA to arrange for the delivery, they did not call me after I saw it at their dock for 1 day, it took 8 days from ordering to delivery, where on checkout it said 3-5, however if you read the fine print it varies. A great BIG issue with Amazon.com however, after reading other feedback regarding their price protection where other customers called in and received a refund of the difference they paid following price reductions, when I called on Sept. 29 and asked for the $70.90 price reduction difference, customer service politely replied SOL, we discontinued that on Sept 1, so that is a minus for Amazon.com and a bit deceptive that it was just discontinued.
Wow! Great for Newbie with no cable/satellite! ...No Reflection Problem...Great with PS3. September 27, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Now I understand why this 46'' LCD HDTV has an average of 5 stars. I agree with all the positive reviews, so I don't need to repeat that information. I also was amazed by the LACK of a reflection problem. With my old non-flat screen, I had to turn all the lights off at night to avoid seeing them. I was unexpectedly surprised NOT to see the same reflection issue with this TV. I don't understand why, but it could be due to the fact that it is so amazingly bright and colorful and big, that light reflecting from table or ceiling light simply doesn't show up. Whatever the explanation, this item does not have a relection problem compared to what I was expecting from couple negative reviews. I did see some light reflection in reflective
Note that as of September 1, 2008, Amazon no longer provides refund if the price of an item drops within 30 days.
I was even more surprised when after searching for over the air channels (I don't have cable or satellite), I was rewarded with 54 stations. I use one of those indoor RCA plug in type antennas which cost me I think about $50 at Sears a few years ago. Now many of those 54 channels were repeats, but I was able to put ~15 HD channels into my favorites, and have the other lesser channels available if I need them. Some have questioned why on earth one would buy such a nice HDTV and not pay for cable, but the compination of the 15 HD channels and the fantastic improvement in watching DVDs (including Blue-Ray) makes this purchase worth every penney. Now I'm saving the $600-$1200 / year on cable/satellite, and invest that money in another TV for my basement or a nice vacation. Alternatively, at an average savings of $1000/year, over the next 20 years given my investment strategies, I'll be ahead between $127,000-139,000. With that I can see in person all those Monday night football games I'm missing by not having ESPN. :)
Regarding movie watching, this 46'' is really big. I'm amazed at what I was missing by watching movies (DVDs) with my 26'' regular TV. Note that I struggled between buying the 46'' and the 52'', and am pleased with this 46'' because it fits better in the space I have. It is also REALLY big, so don't feel bad about not spending extra money on larger version. My couch is about 10-12' away.
I also bought a PlayStation3 (PS3) at the same time in order to play Blue-Ray movies at 1060p. It looks fantastic, but I must add that I could have waited, because the regular DVDs played with my Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVR also look fantastic on this TV...at least compared to what I was used to. This TV is also incredible for playing PS3 games, and I'm also able to surf the internet with the PS3 (with separately purchased Logitech PS3 wireless keyboard) when my wife or kids are hogging the desktop computer and I don't want to fire up my laptop.
Thus, if you are moving up from an old version TV, this Samsung HDTV will blow you away. I have yet to find any issues, thus my 5 star rating.
Great TV, One Major Flaw September 24, 2008 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is an excellent TV, but it is not without a few flaws.
Pros: Brilliant picture with better black than I anticipated. Motion blurring is no longer an issue with these 120hz sets, which is great for sports fans or gamers. There are also plenty of connections for additional devices. It is a great TV...the best I have ever owned.
Cons: They have a great remote, but it is not universal (COME ON!) and thus will not control your cable/satellite box. I called Samsung to confirm this and they said they had issues with the previous model (too many consumer complaints) and removed the universal capabilities. ***By the way Samsung...you can also receive complaints for a LACK of basic features and this is one of them. The issues should have been resolved. Anyway, this will not be an issue for many who have more complex set ups and need a universal remote anyway.
The Anynet feature is a nice concept allowing you to more easily control numerous Samsung devices, like a BluRay DVD, simply; however, it falls short on keeping it simple since you have to have to use two remotes or buy a separate universal remote...all which add complexity.
