Quiet - but comfortable??? August 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have a child's ears, this may be the product for you. If you intend to wear these for long periods and are over the age of 12, you might do better to consider other noise-cancelers. They ARE quiet. The combination of sound-absorbing cushions and active noise canceling enables me to work audio with an air conditioner fairly close by. But the opening for the pinna (ear cartiledge) is too small and the cushion is not deep enough. I have to say the discomfort is minor, but Audio Technica has been in the Audio business long enough that they should know how to design a circumaural earcup!
Superb, Excellent, Ultimate Headphones August 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These headphones are worth more than what you pay for them. They are just superb. In most other noise cancelling headphones, one cannot just listen to music without the noise cancelling feature turned on. These work in all kinds of combos: just noise cancelling, just music, music+noise cancelling. Amazing. The sound quality is really the best I have heard so far. I have tried the Bose triports and these are equally good, so dont bother paying more just to get a "Bose". I used these in the long-haul flight from New York to Singapore and I slept like a baby. Even the in-flight entertainment sounded so good, coz the noise was mute. I have had these for just a month now, so cannot comment on the durability. But the material looks much more sturdier than the flimy Bose, Sennheiser and Panasonics I saw in the shops. Dont think twice. Buy these. I had researched tons before buying these and they are true to their name. Truly World class.
Not too bad August 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this item so I can play along to music on my drums. The noise canceling works very well and the audio quality is good too.
really good quality for so cheap... August 3, 2008 well if your a person who doesn't know much about what you want but want the noise cancelling headphones that WORK then you should buy this. I looked around for so time and Bose is a good company with definite skill in their trade but Bose has two flaws; too expensive and too fragile. The next in line audio technica(if your looking for a good quality at a good price then you found the right one.) All those people who are at lost of what to buy then BUY THIS!!!! You'll not regret it.
Well worth the price if you are a frequent traveller August 3, 2008 I bought it after reading all the reviews here. Afterwards, I took a trip that totaled 30 hours on the plane. Here's my experience:
Pros: 1. Solid construction. Much better than my friend's flimsy Bose QC3. 2. Noise cancelling works pretty well. I tried my friend's QC3 and they are pretty close on that regard. (I didn't have the chance to try them side by side, so I can't tell which one is slightly better.) My guess is that Bose's NC technology probably works slightly better than ANC7, but with the ANC7's tight fit around the ear, the results came out similar. (I also bought or tried the Sony and Philips, and they are waste of money even though they are cheap.) 3. Audio quality is decent. People who say that audio quality is disappointing when NC is not turned on didn't take into consideration of the fact that this is a headphone with a 40mm driver. Your regular MP3 player simply doesn't have the power to drive these without turning on the NC/amplification circuit. I plugged it into the receiver with the NC off and the sound quality is great. (Don't run it through the receiver with the NC on. The double amplification causes too much noise.) My other home-use headphone Sony MDR-CD580 also uses 40mm driver. It has silky smooth high and mid when plugged into a receiver, but if plugged into a MP3 player, it sounded like crap.
Cons, 1. It fits my ears ok and is comfortable enough for a couple of hours of continuous use. It does get a little hot after a while, and after 4 hours of continuous use, it's starting to get a little uncomfortable. 2. I don't particularly like the leather ear cup. Would prefer it has a cloth cover that let ear breathe like the Sony MDR-CD580 which used to have raving reviews about its comfort here on Amazon. 3. The sound quality leaves something to be desired when comparing to headphones without NC in the same price range. But I guess it's ok considering what these headphones are designed for.
