I bought a cheaper shredder a couple years ago. I was new to the shredding game, so I wasn't sure what I needed (or even wanted for that matter). I get what seem like endless piles of mail from my friend Junk and just don't like the thought of others getting their hands on it. Well the $50 shredder I used to have forced me to open all of Junk's mail before feeding it in. It could handle 5 or 6 pages at once, but not 5 or 6 pages folded in thirds. Try that move and I would end up in a seemingly endless cycle of "reverse" "on" "reverse" "on" etc... Once I managed to get it all in, I would find myself emptying the tiny bin way too often - and dumping piles of shredded mail every time I did it.
Fast forward to today. An enormous box shows up at my door. Yes, it's the Fellowes 32197 Powershred SB-97Cs Shredder in all of it's original boxed glory. It has already proven it is big, now I want to see how "bad" it is. A couple letters with Junk's stories of 0% interest and pre-approval go in with a nice low hum. None of this screaming and whining I was used to. I had a small catalog I threw in there... Not because I didn't want anyone to see it, just because I wanted to see what she could do. Not even a whimper or a whine, just that nice low hum and it was gone. I threw a GUM mint flavored floss pick in there next. Not because I didn't want anyone to read it, just... you know... just because.
I wish I had spent the $182.22 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping years ago. If you have a buddy that sends you a bunch of important mail like I do, you're wasting your money on a cheaper shredder if you can afford the cash (and the space) for this bad boy.

It's a monster! It eats everything. Got junkmail? Don't want to open it? Don't worry about it, just feed it through and this thing takes care of the rest. It is really big for a shredder, but who cares? If you've gone through mulitiple shredders like we have you want one that works and is not going to burn out on you. I love the feature that turns off the shredder if your hand (or your kids' hand) is too close. I also like that it shuts down if it is too hot so that it won't overheat. Our last shredder had that option only it didn't work and the shredder still overheated and burned out. When we got this one home we had a huge pile of shredding that needed to be done. We got it all done in one night. When the shredder got too hot it shut off for awhile (maybe 5 to 10 minutes) then got right back to work. We haven't had any trouble with it and it's still working great even after shredding 4 bags worth of paperwork and having to shut itself off a few times. (More than I can say for the last 3 shredders). We would reccomend this to anyone who is looking to shred large batches at a time or use it for everyday shredding. We love it. The bags and oil work really well too and I am glad we bought those when we bought this shredder.

At first glance I was amazed at the size of this thing. I had no idea it was so large. After reading several great reviews I purchased this for my home office. I'd had enough with replacing low end shredders once a year.
I don't do a large volume of shredding but I like to go commercial and I like overkill. This thing easily shreds everything I throw at it.
Bottom line, this thing is impressive. Not the fastest shredder, but speed isn't a factor for me at all. I give this an A+

My old shredder died after 8 years so it was time to buy another. I did research on all midrange shredders out there and got this one. I am very happy with the performance and reliability of this model. I can feed-in envelopes of junk mail and this shredder doesn't struggle. It just keeps gobbling up everything I put through it. It it good quality at a very fair price.

Fantastic Shredder. I've had others that granted, were cheaper, and they were total JUNK. This one is flawless. You don't have to position the paper just so in the slot, like with my last junky shredder. It's a little bigger, size-wise, than others, but worth it for how it easily chews up a whole envelope full of junk mail.
