4 out of 5 stars Good for special needs child that does not speak   August 15, 2008
I have a special needs child that does not speak. The wonderful thing is this device is small and easy to carry with you for him to put in simple words or sentences BUT it does not always recognize alot of words. The plus is you can at least see what he has typed.

I am a reading teacher, and this is a valuable tool for those that struggle with mwmorization of spelling patterns.

3 out of 5 stars a good product, but not super durable   July 27, 2008

It really helped my son with spelling, but it broke easily in his backpack. I'd say be wary if you have a boy who shoves things in his backpack to get out of the school as soon as possible!

3 out of 5 stars Served the purpose.   May 4, 2008
I bought this for an adult ESL student who has never been to formal school, is just beginning to learn English and needed a speaking electronic dictionary. It is much less expensive than the adult version available in the USA (although you can get cheaper ones in China, or possibly on the used goods market) and has a vocabulary of 44000 words. It worked well for her and satisfied her needs, and probably will for a while to come. For kids, it seems like a useful resource till their vocabulary demands a more advanced resource, but hopefully by then they would be reading, writing and speaking fluently enough. For a more advanced ESL learner though I would recommend the Franklin Collegiate Dictionary; its much more extensive.

5 out of 5 stars My 7 years old loves it   March 3, 2008
We got it a couple of weeks ago. My son loves it. Whenever he read, he always have this dictionary next to him. He is learning to study independently, searching answers by himself.
