5 out of 5 stars Good sound and quality at a great price.   October 2, 2006

I bought this M44G cartridge after I had been using a Audio Technica DJ cartridge, and Ortofon and to my suprise its overall performace and sound excelled above the AT DJ cartridege, with much clearer words and treble. I opted for the M44G over the louder version M447, because of that fact I wanted a clearer sounding cartrige and not just the boom loudness as the 47 provides. I combined the M44G with a Stanton headshell, using the Stanton headshell wires for they were better, just have to push harder to get them to click on the cartridge, but they are very secure if doing so.But i used the screws from the Shure package, they are the right length. I prefer to have cartridges already mounted and ready to go. Not good to have to change out the whole cartridge or needle when in a club or party situation, for only takes a min to swap out headshells. Tracking is great, and no skipping so far. I Love the flip up sylus protector, only just remeber to flip it up all the way or you will not be able to see the stylus well unless you do flip it up all the way up,past the first stop. I dislike manually covering the stylus as most cartridges, and it's hard to find those that do. That makes this another great buy. Will buy it again and again until Shure puts out something simimlar and better. Shure does have the newer Whitelabel but I don't like the looks of the new one piece whitelabel catridge, so please keep the M44G on the market. thanks.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Stylus   October 27, 2005

The first stylus that I actually picked up for my first table was a Stanton 500. I very quickly learned a valuable lesson... when you have an audiophile in the family, (in this case, my father) consult them before diving into the world of music/turntables and equipment blindly. It was dreadful...

I quickly 'saw the light', and shelled out some extra dough and picked up this one by Shure, the M44G followed up with the M 44-7. I have to say, I definitely like it. Is the sound as rich, full encompassing sa a Grado or Grado Prestige? Not really, but the sound quality is pretty good to me... certainly does the trick and I feel like I have good control over my records when it comes to cross-fading without (and this is the key) worrying too much about burning them. It's easy on the grooves... provided they're weighted appropriately. And even if you're not DJ'ing and want to listen to tunes, it's a good stylus for that too. As for scratching - I reckon it's perfect but I've NEVER been a fan of beating the crap out of my vinyls.

I definitely recommend this one. I like it and it's been working wonders for me. The M44-7 is great too and remember that sometimes you really do get what you pay for - this isn't one of those cheap $20 stylus. Speaking of which... I too am not so sure about the $100.00 tag because it is pretty standard at around $64-75 for this one without the headshell, and $75-95 for the M44-7. Mine didn't come with headshells, but both came with small kits with screws and even a screwdriver to help attach it. Not bad!

1 out of 5 stars Price through SamAsh is a joke...   October 13, 2005

Amazon, you should be ashamed. Don't let SamAsh fool you into believing that ANYBODY in the world is selling the M44G cartridge and stylus for $100.00. They sell for the same price all over the world that you are calling a $35.00 savings, which makes this absolutely no savings at all. Do you folks research anything???
