Great unit. Satellite mapping is the best!!! June 5, 2008 I've had this unit for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. It's a little work-horse (actually the unit is pretty big). It always finds a satellite signal before I've finished backing out of the driveway. It doesn't seem to suffer from any software glitches (at least I haven't encountered any). I live in Arizona and it gets pretty hot sitting up on my dash. It's never shut down or suffered any other fault due to excessive heat. Oh yah, and its water proof so I don't have to worry about it getting wet. The touch screen interface is very intuitive; in fact I don't see how other GPS's work without them. The unit comes with a large hard drive and lots of available space for MP3s. With the FM modulator it makes for a perfect combination for long road trips. But by far the best feature is the use of satellite overlay for the maps. You get all the same road maps but over the top of the satellite image rather than the standard background. At first I just thought it was a fun little gimmick but I've come to learn it has great practical application. I use it often when I'm in a parking lot or somewhere else that the maps don't cover. You can still navigate really well just with the satellite image. Very cool when you want to find an alternative route out of a parking lot of some huge event or even just the local Home Depot. The resolution is right up there with Google Earth and all the satellite images are stored right on the hard drive of the unit. Very cool.
Any complaints I have are relatively minor: It's not as attractive to look at as some; it's huge, probably could create a blind spot in certain cars; and doesn't have text-to-speech software; and since it doesn't have a battery, it has to be turned on every time you start the car. Like I said, these are all petty gripes.
Definitely would buy this one again, and will always own some kind of GPS unit for me car.
I LOVE this GPS April 20, 2008 I have had several GPS systems. This is by far the best. It has a clear LARGE screen, it can be configured to show whatever features you want, like contours of the land, Fast Food restaurants, and/or marine items. So far I have only used it in my car, but I plan to use it on the boat this summer. It is so nice to be able to tell the system to show me the way home, from whereever I am, and it does it. It does not even get upset if I take a wrong turn. It just patiently recalculates a route to get me to where I asked it to take me. Being able to turn off the voice is a nice feature when I am the passenger and just watching what we are passing.
iWay 600C - software issues April 14, 2008 Although the size of the unit is large. The extra screen size allows for easy viewing. Point-to-point navigation is nice for family trips to answer the proverbial question ("When are we going to get there?). I bought the unit for the flexibility to transfer usage from the car to the boat. Suprisingly, intercoastal bouys are included as I am not a lake boater. However, the unit had some sort of software issues - the screen would freeze and be non-responsive and there were a couple of visual presentation problems. I had to send it back. For the dual use, there aren't many choices in this price range. You could spend hundreds more on a Garmin and the added marine cards.
Good in some features, lacking in others April 9, 2008 The touch screen is very, very tempermental! Sometimes it works, sometimes you have to hit the screen multiple times. The mp3 player is horrible! Sometimes it plays through the radio ok, other time all you can hear is some scratching sounds. I will send it back to the factory for adjustment. I hope they fix it or replace it. I will never, ever buy a Lowrance product again!!!
