Wife loves it!! August 19, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought the Garmin Nuvi 350 for my wife. She is navigationally challenged. Also, she is in general not into tech gadgets. But she just loves this little device. She has a commute of about 40 miles and has to visit customers quite often. So she is using it almost daily. Since she has the Garmin, there are no more 'honey I am lost calls'.

Nuvi 350: better than expected August 18, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This "travel assistant" performs better than I expected; and after seeing a friend use his, I had high expectations. I found it to be very sensitive in that it quickly found the satellites and never lost them even when placed on the center console of my vehicle (Calif won't allow windshield mount...bummer!). It gave accurate directions and announced all direction changes in an easy to hear "voice". It has an excellent user interface - it had a quick start guide but no manual in the box; but you don't need a manual to learn how to operate the unit. If you want more operational details, the on-line manual is great. When I got this, I told my wife it was a travel "tool". She countered that it was only another of my "toys". We took a trip and she used it and was impressed enough to agree that it was a tool and not a toy. Guys, no more needs to be said!
REALLY F-U-N helper! August 18, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
How wonderful is a device that lets you type in your destination very easily, then talks you all the way to the front door? Or one that has an inexhaustible list of grocery stores, service stations, hospitals, parks, theaters, etc., and will talk you right to their doors in any town in North America? Easy to use, and it picks up satellites quickly anywhere in the car; I usually leave mine on the center console and don't bother to stick in on the windshield. When you arrive, snap it off the power cord, put it in its leather case, and drop it in your pocket. No problems with theft, and its battery lets you walk about anywhere for 3 - 4 hours using it as needed if you want to leave it on. GREAT little helper; I take it everywhere. Now this male doesn't have to ask directions ^|^
Pricey, but nicey! August 17, 2006 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
I was for a long time a fan of the Magellan Roadmate series, and decided the give the Nuvi 350 a try. Between the Roadmate series I used (700, 760, and 800 models) and the Nuvi, the Nuvi is the winner. The Nuvi is so much more practical due to its convenient size and extreme light weight. The Roadmates on the other hand are quite bulky and are a pain to put away when parked. The one thing I really like about the Nuvi is that it easily fits in my pocket (which could be a bad thing later if it accidentally slips out of my pocket). Although the Nuvi has a security code feature, I think it is extremely useless. Those of you who believe that the Nuvi security code feature will deter a thief from smashing your car windows and swiping it off your windshield are fools. No thief will care about some code that can be broken in a few minutes.
The one thing that I must give to the Roadmates are that they are much more accurate than the Nuvi and the screen displays much more information than the Nuvi.
However convenient the Nuvi is, it is prone to directional errors. While driving from Vegas to L.A. heading southbound on the I-15 approaching the Pasadena 210 freeway about 2 miles ahead, the Nuvi (in the British Emily voice) tells me to stay on the left side of the I-15, which I ignored since I already knew the area, and I had to stay on the right side of the freeway for the 210 onramp. Then, with only less than a quarter mile left, 'Emily' tells me to take the 210 Freeway on ramp on the right - which would have forced me to make 5 quick/dangerous last minute lane changes. Hmmm....I thought Emily, being British and all, may have been confused about what side of the road we Americans drive on. So far, this was the only directional problem I experienced. One more error, and I sell Emily on eBay!
