3 out of 5 stars IS ACCURACY IMPORTANT? READ MY EXPERIENCE   May 31, 2008

The Ascensia(tm) Contour Blood Glucose Monitoring system has proven not as accurate as I would have expected. The unit came with 10 FREE Strips and I purchased an additional 100 strips. The first thing I did was the chemical strip test to determine its stability - I used 3 Strips and the output was within a few numbers . After getting out the Lancet I decided to test myself. My First reading was 91 (very good). I then proceeded to test another finger (just out of curiosity); and the reading was 110 (OH DEAR).. I proceeded to poke and bleed myself an additional 10 times and the readings went from 85 to 125... THE AVERAGE READING BEING 93 (which I assume is my true reading). I spoke with my doctor, he told me this is a known issue with the Ascensia(tm); The method used to draw blood is very critical. You cannot "MILK" your finger, this causes additional platelets to form screwing up the readings. Especially if you wait over 5 seconds before donating the sample to the STRIP.
