5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!!   August 14, 2008
Don't usually write, but if you're on the fence about this it's great.
It hurts, but beauty is sometimes pain. I can only equate the pain on your legs by saying that it must be like a tattoo and it does fade after several minutes. The hair doesn't grow in evenly, so by the second time you epilate there is a lot less hair hence less to pull out and less pain & so on and so forth.
The bikini area is not something that I'd jump right into. I had a bikini waxing a month previous (first one ever) I would NEVER have been able to just epilate without having that done first.
Also did my husband's back (I had waxed it several times before with the green goop that "heats" with your body heat) It was excruciating for him, but that's why we're having the babies isn't it?
This item has already paid for itself several times over but don't waste your money if you're looking for painless....it hurts but the job it does makes it worth it.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE this thing!   August 12, 2008
The Braun 5270 Epilator is a hands-down, fantastic product. Nothing like the eiplators from the 80's (remember those, they could make a grown woman cry). This epilator actually WORKS.

It's a nice size, fits well in the palm and is easy to control, even in the most awkward of places. Easy to clean and store. Long cord makes it pretty easy to use just about anywhere and the little blue "headlight" is terrific for spotting hairs.

Legs: Legs are sooo smooth. It even gets the little fair fine hairs on the knees and thighs. Shaving could never leave your legs this smooth and soft, and waxing requires you to grow hair back before you can be smooth again. Smoothness lasted for five days after the first use, and after two months of use now lasts up to two weeks. Took very little time and pain was a 2 out of 10 (1 being a splinter and 10 being amutation without anesthesia!). Kind of like rubbing your skin with sandpaper. Very little redness or irritation, and what was there was gone in an hour. Seriously, never had legs so smooth, even with waxing.

Bikini area: Unbelieveable! No more painful than waxing (3 out of 10 the first time, minimal after that) and you can customize your grooming. Wouldn't recommend it for maintaining anything as radical as a Brazilian, but you can certainly groom anywhere from a basic trim to nearly bare. Redness and irritation for a few hours, use a good antisceptic finish and a bump preventer if you're prone. And the result is again, so completely smooth!

Underarm: Never shave again! Again, no more painful than waxing, and like waxing, the more frequently you do it, the less there is to do. Pain the first time is probably a 4 out of 10. No stubble, minimal redness and irritation.

I've waxed the above areas for many years, and this product does a better job. You can touch up whenever you please, and there is no waiting for complete regrowth before grooming. Regrowth lessens within just weeks with consistent use. Super convenient and paid for itself in one use (versus the cost of waxing).

Wish I had stumbled on this even sooner!

5 out of 5 stars I love this product   August 10, 2008
This is a cool hair removal system. My skin is sensitive when pulling out the hairs but it works and I didn't get a lot of red marks and when I do they just vanish in a couple of hours. I love the shaver head that comes with it, I like it more than the epilation head because the shaver head cuts really close without no nicks, it also has a trimer that is right in front of the shaver that works really fast and it glides smooth on your skin. The light helps in dim places so you can light up your skin to see if you got all of the hairs epilated or shaven, it's like an extra. If you like getting rid of unwanted hairs fast without the hassle and the mess, this is the way to go. I tried creams that make your hair fall out with melting the hair off of your skin that is really harsh on your body and leaves red bumps all of the time and it's a mess to do, also waxing doesn't get you very far when you have to wait for your hair to grow long enough for it to strip off and the wax is messy and sticky. I am telling you that the Silk-epil Xelle epilator is NOT a wast of money at all.

4 out of 5 stars Works well, cordless would be better   August 5, 2008
The epilator works well, a cordless model would be better suited for the task. All in all, it's a good item.

3 out of 5 stars A complete analysis after using this for a month   July 31, 2008
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

I purchased the Braun Silk-epil X'elle at the end of June after reading many of the reviews on Amazon for this product for about 3 weeks. I decided to take the plunge and buy it, since it got such high ratings. Now, had I reviewed this product within the first week of using it, I probably would have rated it 4 stars, but I figured that in the effort of fairness, I would try it out for a full month. I have rated it a total of 3 stars -- here is a breakdown of the positives and negatives I've encountered thus far. Keep in mind that this is the first time I have ever epilated. I am not a waxer and while I occasionally plucked with tweezers, this is the first time I have removed hair by the roots a lot at a time.

The positives:
- The light! It was not a major selling point at the time I purchased it, but it is extremely handy. Even when I have the bathroom lights on, it can be hard to see the hairs on my legs (and I'm brunette) so this came in really handy.
- It's not painful on the legs. Even the bikini line is tolerable, but after trying out my underarms, I know that I'll just stick to my legs.
- It lasts about 1.5 weeks. I LOVE that I don't have to shave every couple of days.

So even though I have a long list of negatives, I probably would still buy this (but just barely) for the price I paid of $58.43. I wish I knew if some of the cheaper epilators would have gotten the job done for less, but it's too late for that now... so here is my list of negatives:

The negatives:
- It is very loud. I have two young kids and it is so loud that I would only consider epilating when they are not sleeping or taking naps.
- The massaging roller clip. To me it is awkward and doesn't prevent any more pain than the efficiency clip.
- The shaver attachment. I am really disappointed with this one. Before I purchased this item, I justified my purchase by thinking that if I couldn't handle epilating, at least I would have an electric shaver which I had been thinking about getting anyway. When I found that epilating my underarms was a little too painful for me, I tried using the shaver attachment. It doesn't shave as quickly or effortlessly like I had hoped. In order to shave my underarms closely, I really had to press the shaver attachment onto the skin in quick, repetitive movements. It is SO much easier to just use a disposable razor for my underarms.
- Ingrown hairs. At first, I didn't see any, but after 1.5 weeks, I started noticing that quite a few hairs were becoming ingrown. When I used to shave with a disposable razor, I never had this problem. In order to get the ingrown hairs out, I have had to break my skin and pluck them out. This then tends to leave a tiny scab that takes about a week to heal. This means that although my legs are mostly hairless, I have little scabs on them that make it look like I was attacked by mosquitos.
- The need to go over the same area more than once. I read the directions and held the epilator as it recommended, but I still find myself going over the same area usually at least twice. This doesn't annoy me too much.
- I wish this was cordless. I knew it was corded, but realized that it would be so much nicer if this could be cordless with a rechargable battery. That would allow the flexibility of shaving wherever, and not necessarily where there is a power outlet.
- I also wish that there was a way of it storing the hair that it pulls out so that I could then clean the unit easily. Instead, the hairs it pulls out end up wherever -- the floor, my legs, or the unit itself.
