great lens February 24, 2006 I got his lens to go with my rebel xt. i think you cant go wrong with this lens considering the price. i found this lens produces nice sharp images and at 1.8 (DOF is ultra tight and extremely pleasing blurred backgrounds) its very useful indoors for lowlight situations. i recommend it to anyone. you will get lots of use from it.
Great 2nd lens, good quality February 23, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Very happy with this inexpensive Canon lens. Great for indoor low light situations, especially house parties, etc. Focuses very fast under automatic and gives great results for the focal length. Every photographer should have this lens handy, it will be used a lot. Found the best price on Amazon, fast shipping and good quality here.
Excellent Sharpness, super fast AF. February 21, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very good lens and IMO a must for every digital SLR if you like to take portraits of your loved ones. The sharpness is exceptional even at wider apertures. Buy this unless you want to spend a lot more for the 50 mm f/1.4. Happy Shooting!!
Awesome product in a great price range! February 19, 2006 I abosolutely love my new 50mm. Aside from getting use to a fixed lens I have no set backs with it. The weight of the lens is very light but it does not feel "cheap" to me. The clarity of my shots are amazing. I can really see the difference between this lens and my kit lens. I use this lens mainly for portrait work and love it. I would recommend it, especially for this reasonable price...you won't be disappointed!
Great Images, But somewhat Disappointing Otherwise February 16, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
What's great about this lens is: 1) Sharp images with great color, imperceptible distortion, no fringing. This is really what it's all about, right? 2) Lens front does not rotate when focusing, allowing the use of polarizers and graduated ND filters. Rarely found in a lens at this price. 3) Excellent price, which leads to a great value.
I'd wish for (even if it costs more): 1) More solid construction, as mentioned elsewhere, 2) A USM motor - the lack of which means this lens is loud & slow to focus compared to Canon's USM lenses. 3) Full-time manual focusing ability. (The USM motor would fix this too.)
For the price, though, this lens should still be in every EOS shooter's bag.
