The Best July 24, 2008 The Harmony 880 is one of the best remotes I have ever used. It is simple to operate and easy to install all your devices that require a remote , including the ceiling fan.
Harmony 880 July 21, 2008 The 880 is very easy to setup and program. I have several devices and multiple activities and so far the remote controls everything to my satisfaction. I should note that I'm currently using a replacement due to a malfunction with my original. I called customer service at Logitech and after some troubleshooting they shipped a new remote within about a week.
My second Harmony programmable remote July 18, 2008 My first unit died after about two years of service. It worked good enough to bring me back for more. The 880 is a very good unit with a bright color display. The display darkens quickly to save the battery life but comes back as soon as you pick up and move the unit. The charging cradle has a light so you can easily find it in a darkened room.
Programming is straightforward, but somewhat lengthy, especially when working out the custom, programmable buttons. If you've never done this before and want to get it exactly right, it will take several trials, but the programming software remembers everything so it's just a matter of experimenting and tweaking. The default suggestions for the programmable buttons for each activity you want to program are, in my opinion, pretty lame, but they are easy to change. with presistance, you can make it exactly right for you.
My biggest complaint about this particular unit is the design of the buttons. Too many of the hardwired buttons are not button-shaped at all. Important buttons like volume and channel are ridges on the surface. The 0-9 numerics are too small. The eight custom buttons are also ridges. The design is too stylish and not functional enough, but you're fingers will get mostly use to it. My previous unit also suffered from poor ergonomics.
Very handy device July 16, 2008 This device does what it is supposed to do. I purchased it mainly to replace several remotes and it does a good job of controlling all of my devices. You have to be sure to use it every time you turn the devices on and off or it gets confused and you have to go through an easy procedure to straighten everything out.
A couple of complaints are that the writing on the buttons is very tiny and the device doesn't light up well in a dark room. The color screen is good and bright, but the other controls aren't.
Sucked, returned July 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wanted a remote that would work well with my Vip622 DVR from dish network. Transport controls are poorly placed, and should be raised so that you fingers can easily find them without looking. Also, unit was partially defective. Didn't program completely.
