4 out of 5 stars Sigma Macro Telephoto Zoom lens   May 12, 2007

I needed a zoom lens for some shots that I would be taking on a trip to Canada. When reading reviews on zoom lenses with a price range up to $300-$400 no lens seemed to stand out as "the" lens. Rather than make a really expensive mistake, I chose to go cheap and I'm very satisfied with my decision. I think that this lens is worth every penny. Several of the shots that I took (with this lens) on my trip are now postcards being sold in a local store. My only complaints would be that the images I took using the macro setting were not that impressive...they were nice images but the fine detail that I expect from a macro wasn't there. The other issue is that it's really easy to move the aperture ring which will make my digital SLR read ERROR if I am in Auto-focus and it took me a while to figure out what was going on.

4 out of 5 stars Good value or the money   April 5, 2007

I use this lens on my Nikon D80. Takes sharp pictures. Auto-focus is fairly quick and the lens is easy to operate. Only drawback is the amount of light required. Not really useful indoors. In outdoor macro mode I have to use a shudder speed of 1/60, or less, to be able to get decent focal depth. I'm still happy with my choice though. I can live with the limitations.

Very good lens for the money. Switching to Macro and back at times is difficult. Quality and construction is good.

5 out of 5 stars Great Lens and Great Zoom   March 22, 2007

I have heard a lot of negative stuff about Sigma and I was skeptical but after using it I thought what was all the complaining about? Get lens great price. I did catch it on sale for 119.00

This lens does an excellent job, especially for the price. You can pay a little more for a 70-200 or something like that in a Nikor and I have had both and I think the Sigma is a better lens.
