| Customer Reviews:
Love it...but construction is faulty July 17, 2008 We love all the features of this clock. The alarm is very pleasant, but gets loud enough to wake even deep sleepers. The blue light glows a little too bright, but the color is nice.
Main complaint is that after 6 months of normal use it developed an intermittent buzzing sound. The sound comes and goes. It's irritating. Also, although we never use the radio feature, the channel selected would sometimes flash instead of the time. We were able to resolve this by selecting a stronger channel. This happened although the radio was off. So it appears there's some wiring problems.
We sent the clock in for warranty two months ago and still haven't received anything back. It's frustrating to be so inconvenienced due to faulty construction. Would have got 5 stars if it had lasted.
Nice Radio... July 10, 2008 It's a nice radio with lots of easy to use features and for $20 you can't go wrong. The fidelity of the radio is much better for talk than music but is decent. The "digital" tuning is nice for finding stations but no stations can be preset. When you go from AM to FM, you have to tune in a station every time, same with going from FM back to AM. The frequency numbers "drift" somewhat although it seems to keep tuned to the station. The ease of operation, alarm setting, snooze, sleep, etc make this radio a winner, I hope it holds up over time as I get some concern over other reviews I have read here. Hey, it's only $20, I'll take the gamble!
Clock July 2, 2008 The clock has the one feature that makes it appealing to me-it has an alarm tone that is relatively soothing. All of the other alarm clocks that I have had, had abrasive tones that kept me awake in anticipation of the shrill tone; I became anxious because I knew that rattling tone would soon start. The RCA has a pleasing tone and the clock is easy to set. It even has a feature to adjust the brightness of the numbers on the clock. (With that said, the brightness on the clock at the lowest level is still a little too bright for me, so I turn the face of the clock a little away from me while I sleep which I can live with.) The other good feature on this clock is that it has a way of setting the time very, very quickly by simply holding down the reset buttons. It is inexpensive and a good investment.
Finally found the right alarm clock! June 25, 2008 I don't ask for a whole lot from my alarm clock. I want it to keep good time, wake me up when it's supposed to, and be visible. I don't need a great radio, a CD player, an iPod dock, a sound conditioner or anything else.
Given my low threshhold for features, it was surprising how difficult it was to find the right clock for me.
I don't really need some of the features on this clock, like auto-set and SmartSnooze, but they're nice to have. Might be a problem for you if you like to set your clock differently, though.
The display is great. I really like the LED, which is not out-of-line bright. My old clock had blue numbers on a blue background, and just faded until I couldn't read it anymore.
I like that I can set both alarms to the same thing. Didn't occur to me that some companies will force you to have a buzzer for one alarm and music or sounds for the other, but some do.
My only wish for this clock would be the ability to set the hour and minutes separately, but at least it lets you go both forward and backward. Watch for a.m. and p.m., though!
The footprint of the clock is larger and much more stable than the picture looks. That's a definite plus for a guy who tends to hit the clock clumsily or throw things at it.
The price is a little high compared to similar clocks, but this is the only one I could find which combined everything I was looking for, which make it worth its weight in rubies.
I Really Wanted To Like It June 24, 2008 When my faithful, 20-year-old, LED clock radio started running fast I knew it was time to replace it for a new one. I never use the alarm or radio, so all I cared about was accurate timekeeping and a big LED display that I could see. Shouldn't be too hard to find something like that - or so I thought.
I received this clock, plugged it in, and even though the Auto Time Set didn't work and I had to set it myself, I really liked it. It was a nice looking, stylish clock and the big blue numbers looked pretty cool and were easily visible from across the room. The auto-dim feature worked great and it wasn't too bright for me at night (although I sleep with the TV on so I'm not a good judge for that, LOL). The time stayed correct and I was happy.
Unfortunately, in about 10 days the crackling sound that other people have mentioned started. I had already thrown away the packaging and packing slip, and I considered trying to fix it as another reviewer mentioned. But I was really annoyed with this problem, and when taken together with the other reviews I figured the manufacturing quality of this clock was just not up to snuff. So I emailed Amazon and they said if it was within 30 days there was no problem with returning it, even if I didn't have the original box or paperwork. So it's going back tomorrow.
Two stars for the clock. It looked good, kept time well, and had a good display. But the manufacturing quality is bad, which trumps everything else.
Five stars for Amazon for being easy to deal with!
BTW, on my way home from work last night I stopped at a big-box store and bought a different brand clock. It wasn't nearly as cool looking, but I don't need much out of a clock. Well, this morning it was already 6 minutes slow. WTH? How hard is it to make a clock that keeps time and doesn't have electrical problems? Apparently it's a lot harder than it was 20 years ago.....
