1 out of 5 stars Interchangability limited   August 21, 2007
 2 out of 8 found this review helpful

I have a TRU 9485, and thought I would upgrade to a two line system. Beware, because Uniden has made the handsets not interchangeable. The add-on TCX-905 is, but the handsets sold with bases are not. So your ability to expand, combine or otherwise interchange handsets has been limited by Uniden.

BTW, no where in the Uniden literature did I find notice that the handsets are not interchangeable.

2 out of 5 stars Great in many ways but popping & static on the line.   August 13, 2007
This is a great phone in many respects but suffers from a fatal flaw: popping and static on the line. It's not very loud but it's noticeable and *occassionally* makes it difficult to hear something the calling party said.

* Does this even next to the base unit.
* I do not get this problem with my current GE 5.8Ghz phone.
* This is not from my wireless network. I turned that network off and the problem persisted.
* I tried moving the phone to a different floor in my house. Same problem.

Also, Tech Support seemed to be just VoiceMail Jail. Try it yourself 800-874-9314. I called and got an automated attendant, make a couple of choices "Cordless phone, sound problems" and got a recorded announcement.

The only reason I gave it even 2 stars is that the popping *may* not bother everyone as much as it does me. I have very sensitive ears. I tried to dismiss the annoyance as my hypersensitivity then when I switched back to my 5.8ghz phone I breathed a sign of contentment at NO background noise. (That GE phone has it's own problems but works Ok as long as you use a headset. I was hoping to find a good replacement).

I think i'll just wait for a 2-line DECT 6.0 phone to come on the market. That phone uses a logical 1.8 Ghz spectrum has been used for a decade in Europe, will have greater range than a 2.4 or 5.8 Ghz phone yet (I think) 10x the power of a 900Mhz phone but no wireless LAN 2.4 ghz interference. The best of all worlds. (As you increase frequency, the phone power needed increases dramatically so either the range goes down or batterylife goes down.)

5 out of 5 stars The best cordless phone I've ever owned   August 8, 2007
I've had 'em all. The first cordless phones, 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz now the Uniden 5.8 GHz. This phone beats the rest hands down.

The features you get for the money are amazing.

* Room-to-Room Intercom
* Address Book that's actually usable (doesn't require getting the manual out to program or use it)
* Distinctive rings for different lines or different incoming callers
* Easy, easy, easy set up (did I mention it was easy?)
* Nice key layout
* A menu button where everything you need to do is accessible
* You can label the handsets so you know which base they go back to. Not a big deal for some. But, for someone as anal as I am, I like it. Also, with the labels, we can use the intercom feature to call each other (assuming we have the right handset with us.)

Finally, home phones have caught up with cellular phones. I've wondered for years why I couldn't get the features I have on my cellular phone on my home phone. We've had this phone for a few weeks now and I couldn't be happier. We even went out and bought two more handsets for it. Which is REALLY nice because now we can put the extensions where we want them, not where the telephone jacks are.

We originally accidentally bought the one-line version of this phone which comes with (2) handsets for $60. That phone is a steal. They're also available at our local big-box warehouse store for next to nothing. The phones are so inexpensive, you might wonder about the quality. Well, I can't vouch for the durability yet. But, I can vouch for the design and for the fact that it's working great right now.

5 out of 5 stars Good Cordless 2 line phone   May 14, 2007

I've been very pleased with the phone. Good reception and extremely easy setup for the extra remote phones.

1 out of 5 stars Amazon removing many bad review - buyer beware   February 17, 2007

Typing yet another review as they remove many bad ones mentioning the severe echo on line 2 making this phone useless.

I imagine it makes it hard to sell. If you do buy this phone line 2 will be useless forcing you to buy another phone for line 2. If thats what you have to do why buy this one in the first place?
