I've fallen in love!!! August 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've had my Kindle for a day and I already love it. The e-ink display is literally just like paper and very easy on the eyes. I've heard people complain about how easy it is to flip pages accidently, but it only took me about 30 seconds to figure out a good place to put my thumb and find a comfortable way to hold it. I suspect it will be different for everyone. It seems easier to hold it outside of it's cover, but I like the protection that the cover offers.
I do have a suggestion for a future version. Specifically for people with learning disabilities - it would be nice to be able to highlight the line of text that you are reading. I know some people who use an index card for books and could easily use that with the Kindle as well, but it would be a nice feature to add.
A Great Way to Read August 15, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am really enjoying my Kindle. I just traveled overseas and found carrying the Kindle gave me more reading material and far fewer pounds to carry. I simply purchased my reading material before I left. Since the WhisperNet was turned off for most of the trip, the battery held its charge beautifully. As others have mentioned, it is dangerously easy to download books, but it is also great for reading long Word documents. I have become a walking advertisement for the Kindle - it fits in my purse and is always there when I find myself with a few minutes to spend reading. Buy one for yourself and/or one for a loved one who travels.
I Love My Kindle August 15, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Aside from the fact that it is soooo easy to order and receive a book on my Kindle, I love the fact that I can download lengthy articles I find on the internet that I would rather not read on my computer or waste printer ink and paper printing. Right now I am researching the Congressional franking privilege and found a pretty good twenty-seven page article explaining the pros and cons in some detail. A couple of clicks and it's saved to my hard drive, another couple and it's an attachment in an email to Kindle support, and about a minute later it has been converted to a Kindle readable document and downloaded to my Kindle, all at no cost to me. How much easier can it get?
I REALLY love my Kindle!!
If the pages are are difficult to turn, try holding it like this August 15, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I tried both the Sony version and the Kindle before I made up my mind, and the Kindle is definitely the way to go. I read an average of 2-3 novels per week, and this seemed to make the most sense, especially with the storage space. I can't think of a single thing about the Kindle that I'd consider a negative. The wireless reception I receive is better than what I normally get on my cellphone and the download speed is incredible - I got a new book yesterday in under fifteen seconds.
I see a lot in the posted reviews about how the pages turn "accidentally," and that it's difficult to use because of the placement of the page turning tabs. I found this to be true the first time I used it, but here's a helpful tip: The leather cover that comes with the Kindle can be folded backwards. Fold it behind the Kindle and put the elastic band around the back cover. Place your right hand (except for your thumb) inside the elastic band and place the lower right corner of the Kindle in the center of your hand. You can turn pages easily in either direction with your thumb. Sounds strange, but it makes sense, especially if you like to read using one hand - which I LOVE.
Buy one of these - you'll be glad you did!

Truly excites your reading August 15, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm an avid reader and always carry a book when on the go. I do not like reading from my computer so I was a little hesitant spending the money for the Kindle, thinking it would be the same and the expense was not worth it. I was wrong! The savings in the price of books and periodicals will recoup the cost of the Kindle in a very short time and then keep saving you money afterwards. The conveniences it offers makes me prefer the Kindle over a traditional book or periodical. It lives up to it's advertisement in every way. Something to read in seconds. It fits in pockets, purses, cases etc. unnoticed. It is very comfortable to hold in any reading position. All reading functions are at your finger tips and done in seconds. Has all the features you need when reading a book or researching articles or downloading information. No flipping pages or putting the book down to find paper and pencil to write something. Try it, you will not be sorry.
