Love the Kindle. December 24, 2007 34 out of 37 found this review helpful
I do not understand why so many people have trouble with the next page and prev page buttons on the Kindle. I find that I never hit those buttons. I mostly hold the Kindle at the bottom and when I do hold it higher it takes some amount of pressure to push the buttons in.
My only real complaint with the Kindle is the contrast could be better, for my old eyes.
I live in an area that is out in the country and the EVDO just lights up one bar on the Kindle, but I was able to download a book. I feel like another person reveiwing the Kindle that Amazon should not have pictures of the books showing on the Kindle as it slows the download time of the pages.
I do not think that I will be buying very many more books. I am that happy with the Kindle.
The Kindle is fantastic December 23, 2007 41 out of 44 found this review helpful
After reading the article in Newsweek about the Kindle, I took the plunge. Yes,it's pricey, but it really does live up to the praise. It is incredibly easy to use and to download books (real instant gratification!). I've read 4 or 5 books on it so far and it's just as easy to use as a paperback....plus there's that dictionary...and connection to Wikipedia...
I'm a school librarian and I can see how this could really change things for students...Imagine not having to carry all those heavy textbooks. I think if the price comes down a little it will be really a practical and economical device for schools to use.
And one of the things I like best is the fact that there's no packaging, paper or shipping for the books...and no space taken up on my already overcrowded bookshelves.
Yes, there are a few things they could improve...the next page button is too easy to hit by accident...the cover comes only in a really basic black...and there's no color on the screen, but all in all, this is a really neat item and I think it will change the way we read.
Excellent reader! December 23, 2007 43 out of 45 found this review helpful
I have used my Kindle for almost 3 weeks now. I find it to be excellent at what it was designed to be. A book reader. The plus side is loaded. The ability to purchase and have your reading material almost instantly is the biggest selling point. The large number of volumes available at Amazon only strengthens the reason to purchase it as opposed to other e-book readers. I have other electronic devices for other purposes like my ipod for audio books and music, and my Macintosh laptop for internet access and other computer uses. It is certainly nice to be able to use the Kindle for purposes than reading books, but I seldom plan to use those features. For that reason, I am not pestering Amazon for a color screen. Can you imagine the howling and complaints about the price of a color Kindle? There are many changes I would consider in upgrading the Kindle, but it doesn't lessen my pleasure I derive from the present version. I rated the Kindle 5 stars partly to make up for the loons who choose to review a product they do not own and have never used.
Wow! I love this product December 23, 2007 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I'm completely satisified. The display is amazing. It's light and convenient. The books are cheaper and lighter than paper. I've got several books with me and can choose which one I want to pick up. I can turn the page with one hand. When I go to the cafe or get on a flight now, this is the only book I bring. You can see more info at kindlegeek.com.

Great idea. Worked flawlessly right out of the box, including downloading books in the car on the way to the airport. But product design is seriously flawed. It is almost impossible to pick up the Kindle without activating the page turners which cover the entire left and right surface. The on/off switches should be located on the front, not the back They are very awkward to activate when the book is in it's holder. And the book holder should be better engineered to hold the Kindle in place. Backlighting would greatly enhance the the usefulness of the product in low light situations. Kudos to the geeks, boos to the product designers.
