The Garmin is Great August 15, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just after purchasing the Garmin I went on a trip to Seattle and the San Juan islands. I was traveling by myself. A few weeks prior to the trip I had the second of my cataract surguries. My eyes started acting up shortly after getting off the plane from Atlanta. Blurring, tearing, ect. I had programmed in my trip on the Garmin before I left and it lierally saved the day. I could not read maps, road signs etc but the step by step voice directions guided me effortlessly for the entire week I was away. It is easy to program, easy to use and it was a great experience in technology taking over the travel program
the best thing ever!! August 11, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful

Suprisingly Not Impressed August 11, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
While the Nuvi 660 is full of features and potential upgrades, it lacks the basics of what a GPS is all about, reliable NAVIGATION.
Given all of the high reviews, maybe mine is defective but seems to have lots of issues. I started with a Garmin i2 a couple of years ago and the i2 seems better at the basics, navigation.
Here are the issues:
1. Not reliable in cities. I have used the 660 in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The unit keeps getting confused and changing the route constantly. It figures the right route, 10 seconds later it changes its route, but not in the right direction and not because I made a wrong turn. 5 to 10 second later, does it again, and again...
2. In several cases, when starting out, the unit tells me to "please find my way to the highlighted route". Wait, I got a GPS to get me to the highlighted not make me figure how to get started. In these cases, it could be a mile or more to get there, while I know the roads to do that are on the map, why?
3. Does not pick the best route. Today going to Philly, it picked a route that "looked" direct, but on local roads making it slow. To get to that route I passed a freeway. I decided to hop on the freeway, it recalculate d and now I was going to get to my destination 5 minutes sooner. Why didn't the unit pick that route rather than the longer one what went right by the entrance to the freeway.
4. The spoken directions are ambiguous first the road names it chooses and then direction like go left then go left. Well the road name was not on the signs above the roadway and I needed to go left and then stay in the middle. If I did not already know where I was going, I would have gotten lost.
5. You can only alter a route when you get to the place you are trying to avoid. Sometimes there are areas that if the traffic is blocked it could be blocked for miles, so I would like to AVOID that spot for 5 to 10 miles. The Nuvi tries to get you back on route as quickly as possible (according to the manual) which means I end right back in the traffic. The Magellan brand lets you AVOID while reviewing turns and lets you specify for what distance to AVOID.
6. Unit has frozen when I decide to not follow the route and it needs to re-calculate.
7. Car "drifts" when stopped. I am heading in a direction on a road, I stop at a light, suddenly the car image starts to rotate on the map???
8. Slow to discover when you are off the defined route and recalculate.
9. Slow to start, loading maps takes a bit...more than it should.
Minor issues which could be viewed as enhancements.
1. No orientation in 3D mode, do not know which way is North and what direction you are driving in.
2. No scale in 3D mode.
Love 1. the touchscreen, 2. color, 3. blue tooth (actually downloaded my phones address book so I can dial from the address book on the Nuvi). 4. all maps already downloaded in device 5. 6 million POI (I have tried other brands, a basic things like Zoos are not in them, they only have 1M POI)

Excellent - we tried 2 others first. This is by far the best. Simple and effective.
Garmin Nuvi 660 a great GPS with lots of features August 10, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After looking at a number of GPS options, I chose the Garmin Nuvi 660 because of it's superior screen size. The Bluetooth works great with my cell phone. I also purchased an additional mount for my Harley. This is a great GPS and I would recommend it to anyone.
