4 out of 5 stars Great product   May 29, 2007

I am a first time GPS buyer. However I did a lot of research online to find which GPS product is good for me and choose this one. I am glad I made no mistake by getting the best!!
As a navigational aid this unit is pretty accurate so far during the past two weeks of use. Love the traffic notifications. Beautiful and bright LCD screen(Probably the best one). Bluetooth is a good add on. 6 million points of interest is enough for your lifetime :)
As other reviewers mentioned setting FM audio is hard even with the built in auto tune feature. But that is not the fault of this device. Its because most cities nowadays have their FM spectrum filled up.
My only gripe is that there is no feature to play video given the excellent 4'x3' screen :(

4 out of 5 stars Great Device!!   May 27, 2007

After much research, my husband and I decided on the Garmin Nuvi 660. We wanted a useful, accurate, easy to see and program navigator to move between our cars (and even our motorcycle!). We used to own a Lexus with an installed navigation system and while the screen size was bigger, there are features on the Garmin that are an improvement on the Lexus system. The Garmin tracks your travel time, mph, distance traveled and distance yet to go. That's probably my favorite screen. The bluetooth capability with your cell phone is really not very useful. It's more a function of the noise level in the car than how well the feature works on the Garmin, though. All in all, well worth the money! And it's truly functional!

5 out of 5 stars We love our Nuvi 660!   May 26, 2007

My sister received the Nuvi 350 as a gift and we decided to upgrade to get the Bluetooth and a better display. We had always wanted a Garmin, since a relative had several and swore by the software and customer service. So we did extensive comparative shopping across the Garmin line. We had narrowed it down to the Nuvi 660 and the StreetPilot series, but opted for the brighter screen and built-in battery. We especially enjoyed the intuitive, touch-screen display, which was very visible even on a sunny day.
Having returned from our first trip with our Nuvi, WE LOVE IT. It directed us point-to-point and only a couple of times did it direct us to restaurants that had closed, or referred to an exit number that had obviously changed. But it warned us of 'severe traffic' ahead, and it re-routed us when we were at a dead stop due to a traffic accident. We've also read many comments about the suction cup mount. Frankly, we mounted it to the dash and it worked great. I just ordered a second suction cup mount to use in my car when we want to use the Nuvi there.
This is our first experience with a GPS unit, and so far we have no regrets that we opted for the Nuvi 660!

1 out of 5 stars Directions wrong but Mapquest right every time.   May 23, 2007

Major mistakes in directions 4 out of 6 times!

Disney's Ft. Wilderness Campsites... 3520 N Ft. Wilderness Trail, won't even accept 3520 address yet it's been there since the 70's and is a major site! Did accept address for Ft. Wilderness Lodge.
Sugarloaf Key KOA, 251 State Road 939, Summerfield Florida... takes you OFF the Turnpike instead of keeping you on Homestead extention then list's this KOA on the wrong side of street!
Okeechobee KOA, 4276 US Hwy 441 S, KOA listed on wrong side of street and directions at one point took us down a side road before putting us back on main road!
Thousand Trails, Orlando... directions off completely by 21 miles ending at the side of a road with no address!

Spoke to Garmin support including supervisors verifing these direction mistakes and was asked to enter this data in their error reporting webpage. When asked why Mapquest can get it right and they can't they stated that they use a third party for their information and possibly their alogrythms might need adjustment.

Try driving a 42 foot motorhome towing a vehicle and getting the wrong directions, keeping in mind that you cannot back up! Mapquest on the other hand gets it right every time. The major purpose is to get the proper directions.

4 out of 5 stars First Nuvi 660 died in 2 days, but Amazon took good care of me   May 22, 2007

The first Nuvi 660 I received from Amazon died within 2 days of normal use. One morning I put on my dash, turned it on and nothing happened. I thought it was the battery but it wasn't. I tried the car cord and the AC adapter to no avail. I tried to reset it and that was no help as well. I called Amazon and they couldn't have been any nicer. The sent me a brand new unit by overnight mail that same day. They even agreed to pick up the shipping both ways. Their is no better place to buy than Amazon.com. Now that I have a working unit I am very pleased. The unit is excellent. I feel the technology is better than my previous Magellan which was less than 1 year old. The large bright screen is terrific, and the features are great as well. As a bonus when you call Garmin for support you speak to an American in the USA who truly understands any problems you have and are great about helping you. Magellan support as a general rule s**ks. When I needed a part for my unit under warranty, they sent the wrong part 4 times because nobody understood English very well, although they tried very hard, I said I would never buy from Magellan again. The only reason I cannot give this unit five stars is because the first unit was defective after a couple of days.
