 Very Nice Product July 10, 2008
After having used Iomega products for years, starting with the zip drive and moving to larger media, i decided to try the external hard drive. The price can't be beat for a 500 gig drive. I opened the drive packaging, set it up, plugged it in and kicked on the power. My pc immediately recognized the drive and i was off and running. The drive is quiet, and i love the fact that i can turn it off with an external switch.
The drive works best using USB 2.0 ports and hubs. I tried the drive on an older PC using USB 1.1 standards, and even though the drive states that it's backwards compliant, it struggles to run with 1.1 USB. I then hooked it up to my Mandriva Linux installation on my laptop, and it ran flawlessly. I have had no issues at all with the drive. It runs luke warm to the touch and does not get hot like others i have used. It's transfer rate is great and i like the beefy aluminum case it comes in. All in all, i am glad i purchased the Iomega product. I loved the Zip series drives and i love this one as well.

I purchased three of these drives, and several of the LaCie 500gb drives. Although none of these drives have burned up yet, the Iomega drives are too hot to put your hand on and keep it there. I mean HOT as in I am concerned about a fire hazard. The LaCie drives are warm, but not severely hot like these. I would not recommend buying these drives for that reason alone.
Truly Plug and Play July 8, 2008
Worried that I could lose all my family pictures and all my music, I decided to buy this Iomega after reading the reviews. This was truly a "Plug and Play". It was sooooo easy. Took only a few minutes to transferred my music and pictures. Now I can rest easy. Thank you Iomega for making such a great product.

Excellent and reasonably priced piece of hardware. I have always had good luck with Iomega products and am very happy I purchased this one. This is highly recommended.

Excellent. Shipping was very fast, 2 days. Drive is very quiet, plug-in-play is great. Hard frame is solid. I am a dentist and I take lots of large intra-oral photos (2mb+), transfer is very fast compared to my old hard drive. Would recommend this drive to anyone.
