5 out of 5 stars Fits the bill   July 14, 2008
I am extremely pleased with the product, an Apple ipod 80gb, and the service provided by Amazon. My order came swiftly and in excellent shape. I planned a long auto tour and wanted to download my music library for those radio down times between cities. Rather than having to insert CD after CD, with my entire library in my new ipod, all I had to do is turn it on. What a great solution. Thanks Amazon and thanks Apple.

Apple iPod classic 80 GB Silver (6th Generation)

I am so pleased with this product. It is so easy to use. Battery last a long time between charges. I am glad I bought the 80GB Ipod Classic vs the Ipod Nano, I have surpassed 10GB already with music, movies and TV. Great for traveling, helps pass the time in the airport without lugging bulky dvd players. Love It, LoveIt, Love It.

3 out of 5 stars Apple sacrificed audio and visual performance for longer battery life.   July 11, 2008

After 10 months, this is my review of the Classic. This is my second iPod. I was an early adopter and I had a 10gb 2nd gen iPod. So coming from an old iPod I didnt expect much since i knew its flaws before hand. I preordered this before launch as I had a $[...] off coupons.

Pros:
1) Slim design.
2) Most well constructed iPod to date (components are actually screwed on to the body instead of just being sandwiched between the body.)
3) Video playback.
4) iPod scroll wheel interface
5) Strong power management system
6) High quality LCD.

Cons:
1) Inferior sound quality compared to competitors and older ipods.
2) Interface is slow and choppy.
3) Albums and Artist names disappear from the albums and artist menus if you have Compilations on.
4) Touch pad is not very sensitive.
5) Weak volume

I bought this Ipod for the video, battery life and space. The most annoying thing about this iPod is the sound quality. Compared to my 6 year old 2nd gen iPod, the sound quality was a step down. It didnt have accurate bass. Music sounded distorted with with the EQ. The sound lacked all spatial feel. The DSP is to blame here i think. It was tweaked to give a better battery life. Other than the sound quality issue this is a decent DAP. However, is this a good DAP at all when its primary function (audio) is mediocre? Too bad there are not many really good sounding DAPs anymore. The iPod is still the best in terms of balance of style, features, interface, third party support and battery life.
