good, solid product, excellent dealer service May 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Product works well, U3 was easy to uninstall. I never found the plastic cap like on the older Cruzer mini 256 MB a bad thing and actully think they kept the connection cleaner and the design simpler than the retractable connection on the 4GB Titanium.
Tough flash drive May 22, 2008 I only buy SanDisk products. This Titanium Flash Drive is tougher than the regular ones. I don't have to worry about getting crushed in a stuffed bag.
Beware of U3 virus software May 22, 2008 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
The hardware is impressive, but unfortunately it ships with the U3 virus software. I'm a software engineer by trade, and I'm amazed that Sandisk includes U3. When you insert the USB stick into a new computer for the first time, Windows will pop up a notice saying that's installing the U3 virus. Guess what happens when you give this USB stick to your boss to transfer some files? After he plugs it in, he yells at you, saying he doesn't want any damn software installed on his laptop. Telling him it's the U3 virus doesn't make it any easier.
Also, when you plug it into a Windows machine, two drives show up. This is due to the U3 virus trying to do auto-run. I tried to plug the USB stick into a photo kiosk at my local drug store to upload some photos. Because the first drive is empty (out of the two that show up), the photo kiosk will say there is nothing on the stick. Good job there, U3 virus.
Finally, I got so sick of the U3 virus, I ran the "uninstall" feature, which presented me with two options. The first option said it would take 99 minutes to complete. The second option said it would delete the U3 partition, which I believed referred to the first partition I mentioned in the above paragraph. I chose this second option, and it deleted everything off my USB stick. Then I had to pay $150 to have my data recovered.
Do not tolerate the U3 virus. Delete it immediately, or perhaps get a USB stick from another company.
Sleek, substantial metal... The Terminator of flash drives! May 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a bunch of flash drives, and this one is my current favorite, probably because I get a kick out of the retracting USB plug (no cap to lose!), and the fact that it's built like a tank. Be advised that it also weighs it. So, if you're the type who spends $50 for a carbon fiber gear shift knob so your car will go 0.00001 second faster off the line, you might want to get a Kingston or other plastic model flash drive. (Those might even float in water, if you care about that. This one certainly will not.)
On the other hand, when it comes time to whip out the thumb drives at the office, this one certainly adds a level of cool professionalism. It's the Terminator of USB drives.
The U3 thing drove me nuts. The last thing I need is yet another layer of software added to Windows. Less is definitely more in this department. So, I found some U3 remover software and that took care of that. (But I also know how to find and install "portable apps" if I should desire them. Probably not for the faint of heart.)
The memory in these things doesn't seem to be the fastest in the world... even Sandisk now (5/08) has a "Ducati" model that they say is their fastest. If I wanted speed, I'd look for a Lexar solution... they make that fast camera memory. I might do that for my next one of these.
Finally, when considering small valuable droppable items, I look for ways to keep from losing them... I like to add a short loop of climbing accessory cord with a big fat knot on the end, to make it easy to grab (and attach to a carabiner, etc.). That only works if there's a provision for attachment, which this one has.
SanDisk 4GB Cruzer Titanium May 15, 2008 This is a great flash drive. The only complaint I have is that the keyring that it comes with already broke off my keys. So, now I have to carry the flash drive separately. Kind of annoying, but the actual product is great.
