Item is not as durable as it seems... September 21, 2008 After spending a significant amount of time trying to remove the U3 software that comes on this drive (I wanted to remove it because I don't use windows, and yet the removal software only works for windows) the connection between the actual USB plug and the body of the device gradually weakened (so that to get the device to read I had to wiggle it) until the it became useless. I would recommend Kingston over this, as I've never heard of any durability problems with those, and with these you risking getting a lemon.
Does the job September 11, 2008 Does the job for what it's supposed to do. I got rid of the U3 software within minutes of opening the package. I also have a 1GB Cruzer (the black one) and prefer this one with it's blue light to the orange of the other.
Buyers Beware September 2, 2008 After using this flash drive for multiple types of files I am very very disappointed. At first my only concern was that the USB felt sloppy. But now I can't get this thing to hold any information on my spreadsheets that I use on a daily basis. No matter what I do, I properly eject the device only when I get the message that it is safe. Then I will plug it in again and make sure my spreadsheet is there. Then eject the device again. But when I restart the computer and insert the cruzer my spreadsheets are all kaddywampus with just a portion of the information. It works fine for my word documents and photos, but not spreadsheets. I now purchased a kingston flash drive and pray it works better.
SanDisk 2 GB Cruzer Flash Drive August 31, 2008 During the few weeks we have been using the flash drive, we have been very happy with how well it works.
Achilles heel keeps it from cruzing August 5, 2008 I have a Mac, so when I first got the drive, I deleted the U3 software. Honestly, I probably would have done this anyway - it's a clumsy package that's readily replaced by a few folders on the drive. It's a beautifully functional drive that's tough as nails. I accidentally dropped my keys off the roof of a 6 story building, and it survived. I was a satisfied customer, until I lost the drive.
The Cruzer comes with a flimsy, sad excuse for a keyring. I always had it on the back of my mind to replace it, but I never got to the hardware store, and the regular size keyring that most people use doesn't fit in the Cruzer's slot. Thus, it eventually fell off my keys without me knowing, and was gone forever. Along with 1.5 GB of music and a project with over 50 hours invested in it. This product gets docked 2 stars for penny pinching with an inexcusably weak ring and the lousy software. If you don't mind going out and finding an appropriately sized ring and then deleting the U3 software, then it is a perfectly functional drive that I'd probably buy again if the price was right.
